Who are the G20 countries? Why are they meeting in Pittsburgh this
month, and what is the meeting's significance? Why are activists from
Chapel Hill and around the country converging to protest, and what do
they hope to accomplish?

Find out answers to all of these questions and more at the G20
teach-in on Wednesday fom 7 to 8 PM at Internationalist Books! Local
radicals will discuss the history of the G20 meetings, the recent
history and current state of the counter-globalization movement, the
relationship of these summits to economic collapse and ecological
crisis, and some of the goals, messages, and tactics used by
protesters against the G20 meetings as well as what to expect in
Pittsburgh on September 24-25th. There will also be updates about
local anti-G20 organizing efforts and other upcoming events. If you're
considering attending the protests and want to get a more solid
background, or if you're just curious and want to learn about the
meeting and the issues behind it, don't miss this informative and
exciting event!

her latest collection of poems, A Terse Turn in Chapel Hill, follow-up
to her previous collection titled Paula's Pedantic Poetry. She
describes herself: "My writing poetry and short stories began in
mid-life mostly after the birth of my daughter Alexandra. The poems
are current and topical and drawn from a rich variety of life
circumstances and jobs. My latest work, 'A Terse Turn in Chapel Hill',
is about my home, life, love, politics and pain. Besides the upcoming
poetry reading, I am working on a play called The Blue Shark."

4) RALLY AND SPEAK OUT AGAINST RACISM AND HATE SPEECH! (MON 9/14, 12 NOON)

On Monday, September 14 at 12:00pm the UNC Protesters Defense
Committee will host a rally and press conference at the Peace and
Justice Plaza on the steps of the Chapel Hill Courthouse (Franklin
Street in front of the post office.) We invite community members to
gather to show support for student and community protesters who were
targeted by police and university administrators after the April
protests of Youth for Western Civilization.

UNC Senior Haley Koch, who was arrested following the protest against
racist, xenophobic politician Tom Tancredo, faces charges of
"disturbing the peace at an educational institution" and the six
protesters arrested at the Virgil Goode protest face charges for
"disorderly conduct." They will all go to court at 9am Monday. Come
out to show your support and raise your voice against police
repression of dissent, hate speech, and the violent anti-immigrant
rhetoric promoted by Youth for Western Civilization!

SUN, 9/27, 7:30 PM: *FABULOUS* DIY CONCERT! FEATURING JORDAN O'JORDAN,
DANE TERRY, AND GARY KOONCE
DON'T MISS the cutest, most finger-snapping show of the season, as
touring troublemaking troubadours Dane Terry and Jordan O'Jordan join
local marvel Gary Koonce for a night of melodious plucking, plinking,
strumming and humming!

Why is the Northwest so gray? Because all of the colors of the rainbow
radiate from JORDAN O'JORDAN, a charming and dapper songsmith who uses
banjo, autoharp, saw, and his lovely voice to soothe, storytell, and
seduce. He writes: "The songs come from imaginary conversations among
Kermit the Frog, Mama Cass, Coco Chanel, Pete Seeger, various old
flames who are now ghosts, neighborhood trees, new suitor ghosts, and
Dorothy Parker. And sometimes I listen to a lot of Jolie Holland while
these conversations are happening." Take a listen at
http://www.myspace.com/jordanojordanmusic.

From the bleak Midwest, we are also honored to host one of the
quirkiest tune-slingers to ever pound the ivory, the inimitable DANE
TERRY. His arrestingly original anti-ballads - ranging in subject from
tragic love affairs between motorboats and submarines to imaginary
ill-conceived genetic engineering experiments gone horridly awry - are
equal parts fascinating, hilarious, heart-breaking, and deranged; by
his own admission, his piano playing and singing recalls "an
underwater saloon, or a zero-gravity ballroom waltz, or Stravinsky's
lost country-western songs." Tune in, if you dare, at
http://www.myspace.com/daneterry.

And finally, rounding out the festivities, we're elated to welcome
back the wildly talented GARY KOONCE, who blew us away last fall with
his stunningly powerful voice and evocative acoustic guitar strumming.
After developing his rich, resonant voice through extensive classical
training, he's set his sights on reinvigorating the American folk
singer/songwriter tradition by combining simple, evocative guitar with
stunning vocal reinterpretations of classic folk and gospel tunes as
well as compelling originals. Get a taste at
http://www.myspace.com/garysings.

All of this musical bliss, and no cover charge! Please make a donation
to support the touring artists if you can, but above all don't miss
this incredible opportunity to experience the best of contemporary DIY
music! See you there!
