I've got a 7 year old who wants to take drumming lessons, if possible. We've
got an African drum and she's got a decent sense of rhythm. She's at school
at Watts Elementary so we're in your neighborhood. School's out at 3:30. Do
you have anything to offer in the afternoon . . . maybe even on Friday
afternoon????
Cost???

Thanks for the info.

• 8P Wylie Hunter (acoustic/rock/pop)
"Wylie Hunter is a captivating performer with a truly soaring voice --
his driving rhythms and melodic sensibilities remind me of Joan
Armatrading on a tear!" --Bland Simpson of The Red Clay Ramblers.
The musical offspring of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Gram Parsons, and
other singer/songwriter legends of the 1970s, Wylie Hunter is the son
of an award-winning fiction writer and photographer, his lineage
clearly represented in the lyricism and evocative imagery coursing
through his collection of songs. Trading in the drums for an acoustic
guitar at the age of 15, Hunter moved from Atlanta, GA to Chapel Hill,
NC and began honing a style that blends the eloquence of acoustic
guitar with the driving vocals of pop, rock, and blues joining a
contemporary brotherhood that includes David Gray, Pete Yorn, John
Mayer, Jeff Tweedy and Ryan Adams. Wylie is moving to Atlanta
permanently at the end of May 2007 to pursue his dream of being
professional singer-songwriter.
• 10P - $5 Cover
Jacob's Ladder (rock)
A Diverse background of musicians who have over 30 years of experience
who love the music of Rush and have chosen to pay honor to them.
It all started a couple of years ago, when Scott was playing with a
cover band who played some Rush tunes. Their drummer moved away and
Scott decided to end that band. He decided to start a Rush tribute
band. Phil was the first member to join the band Scott started. Then
we found our guitarist Paul. Phil has gone to join Keith Moon and John
Bonham and I am sure is jamming with them right now. Phil would have
wanted us to carry on. And now we have a new Drummer, Ken.

It's Just Vanity (ambient/indie/rock)
Half by way of Chicago and the other New Jersey, It's Just Vanity is
the end result of six years of songwriting. Members Louis and Kelson
met in high school and have been creating music since. Influenced from
bands like American Football, Explosions in the Sky, Cursive, and
genres of ambiance, blues and rock, It's Just Vanity creates a sound
that has been received by many as catchy and genuine. It's Just Vanity
brings both high energy igniting a crowd and calm, smoother tones that
captivates and holds the audience - a group that you definitely do not
want to miss.

Love and Reverie (pop/ambient)
Love&Reverie are from Richmond, Virginia, a state capitol that bands
like GWAR, Lamb of God, Strike Anywhere and Down to Nothing call home.
With most of the city's major venues located in tough-guy
neighborhoods and the hardcore scene ruling the territory, this five-
piece's unique meld of pop-rock and ambient tones are - how shall we
say this - the odd band out? But who's to say this is a bad thing? In
Richmond, where lush atmospheric soundscapes take the backseat to the
brazen, fast and heavy, Love&Reverie were given a blank slate. They
weren't limited by local standards or trends. The musical freedom left
room for discovery and innovation, and it still does. In July of 2006,
when the group founded from an assortment of childhood friendships and
old band connections, there was an instant chemistry. As the five aged
as one, they worked and re-worked their sound to their liking - a
lofty fusion of sweet, gentle verses to high-soaring, fluid melodies.
Dream-like. Sometimes even cosmic. Similar to contemporaries like
Park, Armor For Sleep, The Early November or even Deftones and Sunny
Day Real Estate, Love&Reverie concentrates on progression and
structure. The pop is there, and graciously, but vapid hooks aren't
Love&Reverie's style, or Richmond's, for that matter. It's been over
two years since the five-some practiced for that first and holy time.
They've since self-released the Lovers are Liars EP (produced by Tyler
Orr - Rookie of the Year, As Cities Burn), and a full-length called
The Mapping, an one-album deal off North Carolina label, Firefly Music
(produced by Mitch Marlow - Advent, A Skylit Drive, He Is Legend).
Pair these releases with a hefty 'Net following, and Love&Reverie know
how to keep the ball rolling. They also recognize that consistently
touring (sometimes for over half the year!) is the most important
business decision they can make. And they're pretty good at it too.
"We love being able to get out on the road and make new friends and
get our music out to fresh ears. The people we meet and get to play
for will hopefully become the foundation for an ever-growing fanbase,"
guitarist Josh Breth explains. "We have definitely found a way to make
the road as comfortable if not more comfortable than being home."
Relentless and enduring, they wont sit idle. It must be the Richmond
in them.

Stereo in Stasis (pop/rock)
Busting out of wombs of North Carolina with barely anytime to cut the
umbilical, comes the band Stereo In Stasis. If you like good music,
you'll love Stereo in Stasis. With catchy guitar riffs, punk beats,
and clever lines, this band will guarantee you a girlfriend.

Saturday September 12
• 8P Erin Brown (acoustic/alt/folk)
• 9:30P 8 Eyes (pop/powerpop/folk rock) featuring Brad Newell
8 Eyes is a band from the Chapel Hill - Durham area of NC. 8 Eyes
blends the sounds of electric and exotic stringed instruments with a
solid foundation of pop songwriting. Their unique musical approach
sets them apart from other groups on the "alternative" scene.
Incarnations of the band have been trekking up and down the east coast
since 1994. 8 Eyes has over 50 original tunes in the repertoire as
well as many covers and can play virtually any event. They have played
shows in places ranging from coffee houses to huge rock clubs and such
landmarks as CBGB's. They have supported such diverse acts as Melissa
Etheridge, Burning Spear, and folk icon Donovan. The three members
are: Brad Newell (guitar, vocals, autoharp, mandolin, banjo and
violin) is the primary songsmith and has several CD's to his credit.
Adrian Foltz (drums, vocals) draws from his years of experience when
holding down the steady beats and newest member Dan Bayer (bass,
vocals) fills out the trio.
• 10P Flava (contemporary jazz/r&b/pop)

Sunday September 13
• 7:30P Aaron Mills Project - Sunday Night Jazz Jam
Starting at 7:30, Open Jam at 9
If you are in any way a fan of jazz, this is not to be missed !!!
Aaron Mills, best known as the audacious bassist of classic funk act
Cameo, has inspired a generation of groovy musicians, but his long
time love affair with jazz has inspired The Aaron Mills Project.
Aaron has been playing at the Cafe for a few months now, along with
Wayne Kee, Bobby Hinton, Warren Fraizer and others. Aaron has brought
Sunday night jazz back to the Cafe in a format that includes a cast of
regulars as well as featured guest musicians every week. Towards the
end of the evening, the night becomes an open jam, so, if anyone wants
to come blow their horn....
