=95 8:30P High Strung Music's Old Time Jam w/ Aaron Greenhood
Old-time music is a form of North American folk music, with roots in
the folk musics of many countries, including England, Scotland,
Ireland and Africa. This musical form developed along with various
North American folk dances, such as square dance, buck dance, and
clogging. The genre also encompasses ballads and other types of folk
songs. It is played on acoustic instruments, generally centering on a
combination of fiddle and plucked string instruments (most often the
guitar and banjo).
Wednesday July 22

Consulting Services. Butch Haas will be facilitating this free-to-the-

=95 8P Mandolin Orange (acoustic/folk/bluegrass)
Andrew and Emily met in Chapel Hill in January of 2009 and have been
playing nonstop ever since. Andrew entered the Chapel Hill music scene
while completing his first album there in 2008. Emily grew up in
Chapel Hill and has played bluegrass in the area since age 14. Aside
from the occasional bluegrass standard or familiar cover, Andrew
writes a delicious array of songs. They span genres from folk to swing
(and everything in between) with powerful lyrics and haunting
melodies. Emily will bow your heartstrings on the fiddle and
occasionally pick up the guitar. Andrew keeps rhythm and picks a tasty
lead on both guitar and mandolin. Local fans can=92t get enough of their
on-stage chemistry and the blending of their voices. Whether as a duo
or with a band to back them, Mandolin Orange always fills the stage
with melody and charm.
=95 10P Happenstandsa (formerly DTL Trio) (rock/funk/blues)
Saturday July 25 - $8 cover
=95 8P The SnoCones (roots music/blues/rock)
Art Champagne is a self-taught rock =91n roller and bluesman originally
from Connecticut. While in college he decided that he wanted to be
Keith Richards when he grew up. Despite his best efforts he became a
physics professor. He also performs with Mark Cool and the Folk Stars
(myspace.com/markcool1) . Nancy Bierman studied classical piano and
sang in school choirs as a kid in New York. She honed her vocal skills
in the kitchen while preparing dinner and in stores, singing along
with the muzac. She also performs with Brian and Mary Lewis
(brianandmarylewis.com). Art and Nancy have been loving the NC music
scene since moving there in 1990. A North Carolina native, Penne
Sandbeck finds fulfillment in balancing a busy life--a day job as an
architectural historian, a full-time job as a mother--and, in the
process, becoming a better writer and musician.
=95 9P Jon Shain Trio (blues/folk/acoustic)
Jon Shain is a veteran singer-songwriter who=92s been turning heads
for years with his words, his fiery acoustic guitar work, and his
evolved musical style-combining improvised piedmont blues with
bluegrass, swing, and ragtime.
Sunday July 26
=95 7:30P Aaron Mills Project - Sunday Night Jazz
Starting at 7:30, Open Jam at 9
If you are in any way a fan of jazz, this is not to be missed !!!
Aaron Mills, best known as the audacious bassist of classic funk act
Cameo, has inspired a generation of groovy musicians, but his long
time love affair with jazz has inspired The Aaron Mills Project.
Aaron has been playing at the Cafe for a few months now, along with
Wayne Kee, Bobby Hinton, Warren Fraizer and others. Aaron has brought
Sunday night jazz back to the Cafe in a format that includes a cast of
regulars as well as featured guest musicians every week. Towards the
end of the evening, the night becomes an open jam, so, if anyone wants
to come blow their horn....
