At The Broad Street Cafe this week...

Tuesday June 30
=95 8:30P High Strung Music's Old Time Jam w/ Aaron Greenhood
Old-time music is a form of North American folk music, with roots in
the folk musics of many countries, including England, Scotland,
Ireland and Africa. This musical form developed along with various
North American folk dances, such as square dance, buck dance, and
clogging. The genre also encompasses ballads and other types of folk
songs. It is played on acoustic instruments, generally centering on a
combination of fiddle and plucked string instruments (most often the
guitar and banjo).

Wednesday July 1
=95 7:30P Open Mic Night
Open Mic is arranged to enable anyone to perform, so all you have to
do is turn up early and get your name down to perform. Originals and
cover music of every style and genre are welcome! Open mic is a great
way to practice your art and can also can be a proving ground for new
talent and material. The audience consists of singers, poets,
songwriters and music lovers so the atmosphere should be warm and
encouraging for everybody.

Thursday July 2
=95 8P Jaafar (funk fusion)
Upon returning from a six month musical exploration of the Nile River
Valley and the Sinai mountains, the vision to bring Middle Eastern /
Arabic melodies and rhythms interpreted through the voice of American
jazz became increasingly compelling. The original components of the
group began with two violins, an acoustic bass, and two
percussionists. As the magical potency of the music grew, the group
soon morphed into its present incarnation. A revolving door of
extremely talented musicians, with a willingness to push themselves
and their audience to unforeseen places, fused traditional Arabic
music, classical Indian concepts of composition, North African
rhythmic grooves, and pure American "old-school Funk" to produce the
unique soundscape that is Jaafar.
=95 10P Three Days in Vegas (alt/rock/ambient)
Three Days in Vegas are rich in textures that marinate in sugary sweet
guitars and simmer with a dream like atmosphere for soulful vocals to
play over. All this creates a sweet, dark and sometimes moody
intensity.

Friday July 3
=95 8P Spencer Sholes (alt/folk rock/funk)
Lifelong musician, songwriter. Specializing in guitar and vocals.
Playing original music wherever I can get in the door.
=95 10P Jordan and the Sphinx (spanish pop/2-step/zouk)

Saturday July 4
=95 8P Matt Lenny (indie/classic rock/psych)
Matt Lenny and The Breakdown are a new Brooklyn band. They are
currently recording their debut album with producers Tommy Mokas and
Nick Rosenthal at Casa Nova Studios.
Indie rock with classic rock soul? Whatever you want to call it,
we=92re pretty proud of it and we hope you dig it.
=95 10P On The Fly (blues/jam/drum & bass)
"On The Fly" is a by product of a potentially cancelled gig in the
ninth hour ~ burning up the phone in the tenth ~ pulling it all
together in the eleventh ~ and kicking !@! right on time. It is the
combined talents of Aaron Mills of Cameo with Pat Madison and Post
Postlethwait of PM Bulldozer. They are "On The Fly" and off the hook.

Sunday July 5
=95 7P Aaron Mills Project - Sunday Night Jazz
Starting at 7, Open Jam at 9
If you are in any way a fan of jazz, this is not to be missed !!!
Aaron Mills, best known as the audacious bassist of classic funk act
Cameo, has inspired a generation of groovy musicians, but his long
time love affair with jazz has inspired The Aaron Mills Project.
Aaron has been playing at the Cafe for a few months now, along with
Wayne Kee, Bobby Hinton, Warren Fraizer and others. Aaron has brought
Sunday night jazz back to the Cafe in a format that includes a cast of
regulars as well as featured guest musicians every week. Towards the
end of the evening, the night becomes an open jam, so, if anyone wants
to come blow their horn....
