Unfortunately the Dirty Little Heaters are not able to play this show tonight
at the Pinhook.  The Loners and Basalt will still be playing so come on out!

Thanks!
Reese

The Old Ceremony (http://www.theoldceremony.com/)
The Love Language (http://www.myspace.com/thelovelanguage)
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

Two local bands who've both developed quite the rabid local followings
-- true passion, lusty singalongs, the whole package -- while still
making smart, complex, well-played music that's radio-friendly (but only
in that alternate universe where commercial radio loves great pop and
doesn't suck ass). If you're the sort of person who likes to check out
Next Big Things so you can reminisce about that one Cradle show, years
later, you'd better jump quickly.

Saturday, May 23
The Loners (http://www.demonbeachrecords.com/loners.html)
Basalt (http://www.myspace.com/nickyisbasalt)
The Pinhook, Durham

The Loners you know by now. (Dirty Little Heaters were on this show as
well, but had to drop out, FYI)

Basalt you may not know about: Singer/guitarist Nicky Trimiar was in the
original, swirlier version of Greensboro's Mercury Birds; later on she
was in an excellent psych/pop band called Taija Rae. Basalt is a
gtr/drums duo, and the emphasis is again psych/pop, but stripped *way* down.

Wednesday, May 27
Caltrop (http://www.myspace.com/caltropband)
Colossus (http://www.myspace.com/thecolossuswillcrushyou)
Black Skies (http://blackskies.us/)
Pour House, Raleigh

Three of the Triangle's heaviest. Colossus are closest to classic
oldschool (Priest/Maiden) BritMetal, even though most of them have
absurdly short hair. Black Skies are a growly rumbly power trio. Caltrop
are a massive stoner/psych/metal monolith.

Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

Thursday, May 28
Bonnie Prince Billy (http://www.dragcity.com/bands/bonnie.html)
Lichens
ArtsCenter, Carrboro

This show is listed as sold out (not surprising, as it has been a while
since Oldham & Co. have come through town, and the past few months have
been pretty heavy publicity-wise (at least by his standards), with a
feature in the New Yorker, etc). Tickets often have a way of
materializing out in front of the venue at the last minute around here,
however.

Thursday, May 28

Lynn Blakey
Joe Swank and the Zen Pirates
(http://www.myspace.com/joeswankandthezenpirates)
Sleepless Nights (http://www.myspace.com/sleeplessnightschapelhill)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Joe Swank moved to Chicago, which might explain why you haven't seen his
Zen Pirates listed anywhere lately. This is just a visit, not a full
return, so catch 'em while you can.

Sleepless Nights is a Gram Parsons tribute put together by Shakermaker
pedal-steel player Thomas Moorefield. Lynn Blakey, of course, is
one-third of Tres Chicas.

Friday, May 29
Cool John Ferguson (http://www.musicmaker.org/artistroster/Cooljohn.htm)
Pin Projekt (http://www.pinprojekt.com/)
The Pinhook, Durham

The Pin Projekt is an annual fundraiser for the Troika Music Festival:
retired bowling pins from Durham's Village Lanes are
redefined/redecorated/arted-up by local artists & then auctioned off.

After the auction portion of the evening, there'll be music from hotshot
electric blues guitarist Cool John Ferguson.

The Never (http://www.trekkyrecords.com/never.html)
Wes Phillips (http://www.myspace.com/wesleydongeroga)
Birdlips (http://www.myspace.com/birdlipsmusic)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Wes Phillips recorded & semi-released an almost criminally-overlooked
album, "The Wagoneers," which you should really go download RIGHT NOW:
http://www.cytunes.org/album/8/.

Friday, May 29
Waumiss (http://www.myspace.com/waumiss)
Pinche Gringo (http://www.myspace.com/pinchegringoband)
Veelee (http://www.myspace.com/seeveelee)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

Three duos (well, assuming Pinche Gringo are in duo rather than solo
configuration): Waumiss are Clarque & Caroline, formerly known as
Shallow Be Thy Name. Waumiss is their slightly-more-electronic outfit.
Veelee are a new bedroom project from Matt Park (ex-Opening Flower Happy
Bird) & his housemate Ginger. Stripped-down arrangements & detached vocals.

Pinche Gringo is the sometimes-solo, sometimes-duo outfit of ex-Spinns
drummer Josh Johnson.

Friday, May 29
Dirty Little Heaters (http://www.myspace.com/thedirtylittleheaters)
Black Skies (http://blackskies.us/)
Death Came Down the Mountain
(http://www.myspace.com/deathcamedownthemountain)

Hexagon EP.

Saturday, May 30
Wayne Hancock (http://www.waynehancock.com)

This is an early (7:00 p.m.!) show.

Saturday, May 30
Black Bull: A Durham Cabaret
(http://chasefoster.blogspot.com/2009/05/black-bull-durham-cabaret.html)
The Pinhook, Durham

All I know about this cabaret is that it's hosted by a drag queen (of
course! this is Durham, for chrissake) & it seems likely that there'll
be a cross-section of other Durham weirdness represented.

Saturday, May 30
Schooner (http://www.schoonermusic.com)
Impossible Arms
Uncle Woody Sullender (http://www.deadceo.com/unclewoody/)
Actual Persons (Living or Dead)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

One part stoned Cheap Trick/Crazy Horse-ism, one part sinister pop, one
part ex-pat avant-garde banjo, and one part Durham K-Recs-style supergroup.

Saturday, May 30
A Rooster for the Masses (http://www.myspace.com/aroosterforthemasses)
Western Civ. (http://westerncivrock.com)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

This is a benefit for the Blotter magazine. A Rooster for the Masses are
a political dance-pop-rock band from Raleigh, [more than] a little bit
influenced by UK postpunk of the early 80s. Western Civ are an Indie
Rock band; hard to miss the moments of Pavementism on their most recent
album "Shower The People You Love With Gold."

Sunday, May 31
The Loners (http://www.demonbeachrecords.com/loners.html)
Kenny Roby's Mercy Filter (http://www.kennyroby.com)
Dirty Little Heaters (http://www.myspace.com/thedirtylittleheaters)
Magic Babies (http://www.myspace.com/themagicbabies)
Tin Star
Rebus Works, Raleigh

Rebus Works is an art gallery on the corner of Boylan Heights, next to
the bridge; in addition to being great folks with a good eye for art,
the owners have been involved in the local music scene for literally
decades. Periodically they have outdoor festivals in the little
cul-de-sac in front of their gallery. Here's the info about the latest:

RebusFest3 will be here in just a few days, and we hope that you can
join us! The big party takes place on Sunday, May 31, from 1-6 p.m.
There will be music (see the band line-up below), art, kid’s crafts,
Locopops, beer (from Carolina Brewing Company), and food, too!

MUSIC
1-2 / Tin Star
2-3 / Magic Babies
3-4 / Dirty Little Heaters
4-5 / Kenny Roby’s Mercy Filter
5-6 / The Loners

DJ Midnite Cowbwoy will be spinning between the sets.

ART: Julie Armbruster, Matthew Barton, Gabriella Corter, Captive
Collective, Johanna Ely, Sivana Gur, Celia Gray, Abie Harris, Emily
Soldin Howard, Curtis Krueger, Clifton May, Sonya Coulson Rook, Ronnie
Tomany, and Lauren Turner.

Sunday, May 31
Joe Swank and the Zen Pirates
(http://www.myspace.com/joeswankandthezenpirates)
Sadlack's Heroes, Raleigh

Second and final chance to check out Joe Swank & his Zen Pirates before
he jets back to his big-city life in Chicago.

Tuesday, June 2
CJ Boyd (http://www.cjboyd.com/)
Bicameral Mind (http://www.myspace.com/bicamind)

Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Tuesday, June 2
Deleted Scenes
Pink Flag (http://www.myspace.com/pinkflagnc)
I Was a King (http://www.myspace.com/iwasaking)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Deleted Scenes are some kinda DC-area indierock superstars (on the
indierock scale, that is, not the regular scale -- 8.0 in Pitchfork, not
4 stars in Rolling Stone). Pink Flag are most definitely Durham-area
superstars, on the intergalactic scale.
