Don’t let the name fool you. It’s not all mommy-crafts. The show is held
each year the weekend before Mother’s Day. A group called “Just a Few
Friends” puts on the art show as a fundraiser for a different local charity
each year. At least 25% of the money from each artist that participates goes
towards the charity. This year, the fundraising recipient is Genesis Home, a
group that helps homeless families & children in the Durham community find
permanent residence. Of particular note is their program that helps young
adults transitioning out of foster care.

This year the show is at the newish Golden Belt spot in downtown Durham.
It’s in Building 2, on Floor 3, the same space location for last week’s
Rosebuds/Lost in the Trees/Midtown Dickens show. If you haven’t been, go
just to check out this amazing space -- huge warehouse room with tall
ceilings, brick walls, & lots of windows.

There’s always a wide variety of art for sale – jewelry, paintings,
photography, metal work, pottery, screen printed shirts, handbags, knit ware
& other textiles, etc. There’s an opening party on Friday night that costs
to get in, but has FREE food & drinks once inside. Friday night has a fun
party atmosphere, you get to meet the artists in a social setting, and you
get first crack at buying the art. There will be food from Parker and Otis,
Rue Cler, and other venues, plus wine, beer, soda, and water. They added
live music this year, too, from an a cappella artist STELLA (

), and later in the evening, guitar solos by Shawn Deena (

).

All the money from the door on Friday goes to the Genesis Home, so try to
stop by on Friday. If you miss the party, you can go all day Saturday & half
day Sunday just to shop and check out the space.
