=95 8:30P High Strung Music's Old Time Jam w/ Aaron Greenhood
Old-time music is a form of North American folk music, with roots in
the folk musics of many countries, including England, Scotland,
Ireland and Africa. This musical form developed along with various
North American folk dances, such as square dance, buck dance, and
clogging. The genre also encompasses ballads and other types of folk
songs. It is played on acoustic instruments, generally centering on a
combination of fiddle and plucked string instruments (most often the
guitar and banjo).

talent and material. The audience consists of singers, poets,

Friday Mar 27
=95 8P Jordan and the Sphinx (spanish pop/2-step/zouk)
=95 10P HWYL (alt/celtic/rock)
Hwyl is a Welsh word that means many things including "wind in your
sails" or "sudden spark of enthusiasm." This certainly describes this
Gypsy Celtic Rock band based out of North Carolina but with strong
roots in Wales. The music is melodic with dramatic rhythm patterns,
strong in originality and spunk, symbolic of flying red dragons and
wild mystic oceans of lost mermaids and ancient valleys of green.
There are love songs, anti-war songs, waltzes and jigs. Bob Marley
must have visited Wales because there is a definate reggae influence.
There are several songs in the Welsh language including rock versions
of "Calon Lan" and "Sospan Fach." , Since the birth of Hwyl in May
2005 they have staged Koko Booth Ampi Theater in Cary, NC for the
Gaelic Festival 2005, the International Festival of Raleigh, 2006 and
many street fetivals in the area. They perform regularly at Irish pubs
and restaurants who support culture and often appear live on WXDU,
WCOM and have regular air play at radio IRFT (www.radioirft.com). The
Herald Sun's quote on Hwyl was "Hwyl brings new culture to North
Carolina" after Carrboro Fest 2005.

Saturday Mar 28
=95 8P Karla Davis (acoustic) An acoustic artist from Monroe, NC...Karla
was nominated for best female pop artist for the JNFE Awards and she
will be recording he first album in the Spring of 2009.
=95 10P SoSeriousEntertainment (rap/r&b/hip hop) - $5 cover
So Serious Entertainment was started in early 2006 by three friends
searching for music that America would love. The company was founded
in Durham, North Carolina and currently operates So Serious Studios,
but is poising itself for a total assault on both the music industry
and the hip hop world. We have a small stable of young artists ready
to break out.

Sunday Mar 29
=95 7P Aaron Mills Project - Sunday Night Jazz
Starting at 7, Open Jam at 9
If you are in any way a fan of jazz, this is not to be missed !!!
Aaron Mills, best known as the audacious bassist of classic funk act
Cameo, has inspired a generation of groovy musicians, but his long
time love affair with jazz has inspired The Aaron Mills Project.
Aaron has been playing at the Cafe for a few months now, along with
Wayne Kee, Bobby Hinton, Warren Fraizer and others. Aaron has brought
Sunday night jazz back to the Cafe in a format that includes a cast of
regulars as well as featured guest musicians every week. Towards the
end of the evening, the night becomes an open jam, so, if anyone wants
to come blow their horn....
