1) "AMERICAN REVOLUTION 2" SCREENING AND DISCUSSION!

On Wednesday, June 25th at 7 PM, join us at the Internationalist for a
screening of American Revolution 2, an inspiring 75-minute film
documenting the riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in
Chicago and the social upheaval which followed. Beyond the marches, in
apartments and pool halls and conference rooms, the film sketches an
'everyday' revolutionary culture that is passionately committed and
organizing across boundaries of race and class. In their Chicago,
civilians call cops to account, Black Panthers align with 'hillbilly'
activists, and young firebrands preach urban guerilla warfare to the
middle class. This movie is essential viewing during an election year
in which radicals are putting a huge amount of energy and planning
into disrupting the spectacle of political party conventions. After
the movie there will be space for discussion and Q&A about the
organizing going into the 2008 convention protests and the many worlds
which could exist beyond this one.

2) INTERNATIONALIST BOOKS CELEBRATES LGBTQ HISTORY MONTH!

Internationalist Books and Community Center in Chapel Hill is
celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ)
History month in June with a sale of 10% off all LGBTQ books and
merchandise! Even 39 years after the 1969 Stonewall rebellion, it can
still be difficult to find progressive outlets in the South for LGBTQ
culture and politics. As Chapel Hill's own independent non-profit
bookstore and progressive community space, we have stocked LGBTQ books
and publications and supported LGBTQ struggles since 1981. We?re one
of the only places in Chapel Hill to find North Carolina?s weekly gay
community newspaper, ?Q Notes?, and have bulked up our inventory of
books and bumper stickers to celebrate the anniversary of the historic
milestone and the arrival of Pride festival season around the country
and the world. Our weekly Queer Youth Drop-In Night has become one of
the longest running and most successful store events, providing a
desperately needed safe space to LGBTQ youth in the Chapel
Hill/Carrboro area. Come in to check out a compelling selection of
LGBTQ authors, feminist literature, radical perspectives, and
hard-to-find titles, in a comfortable, queer-friendly space that
welcomes all people. Out of the closets, into the bookstores!

3) NEW MAGAZINES HAVE ARRIVED!

We just received a shipment of the latest issues of your favorite
magazines! From politics and current events (The Progressive, Z,
Adbusters, Utne Reader, Dissent) to feminist criticism (Bust, Bitch,
Off Our Backs) to ecology (Carbusters, Permaculture Activist,
Ecologist) to arts and culture (Wax Poetics, Juxtapoz, Believer), you
can count on the Internationalist to provide a diverse array of
critical perspectives on society. Come in and browse the latest news
and ideas!

INTERNATIONALIST PRISON BOOKS COLLECTIVE
The Internationalist sponsors a program that sends free books and
literature to people incarcerated in Mississippi and Alabama. Since
2006 the Books to Prisoners collective has mailed educational
materials to thousands of prisoners, building solidarity with networks
of activists inside and out of prison agitating for justice and
alternatives to the prison system, while meeting a direct and urgent
need. There are many ways to get involved:

-Come fill requests at the weekly book-wrapping, which takes place
every Sunday from 1-4 PM at 218 N. Graham St. in Chapel Hill.

-DONATE books by dropping them off at the Internationalist!
Particularly in demand are dictionaries, thesauruses, African-American
history, culture, and fiction, self-help, Spanish language,
GED/education, and more (paperbacks only).

For more information, check out www.prisonbooks.info.

NEW LOCAL SKILLSHARE / FREE SKOOL!

Do you like to make stuff, learn things, and teach others? A local
Skillshare/DIY/Art Collective, Free Skool, Radical Event Bulletin, and
Space/Material/Tool Share is being formed. This is a way for local
creative types to find each other to make and do stuff together. There
are a lot of innovative, skilled, and imaginative people in this area.
Let's pool our knowledge, skills, and resources to exponentialize our
creative input and output. So if you want to make masks or soap or
vegan liqueurs or a rope ladder or a mud oven or collaged formal wear
or tamales or hula hoops or pretty much anything else, or find others
to play soccer or practice tai chi with, or host a workshop on blowing
glass or screen-printing, or organize a potluck or salon, or just put
out an idea to the community; check this thing out. This is a way to
get your desires out of your head and into the awareness of lots of
other like-minded local people. Let's get together for the artistic
and practical. This is completely non-commercial and local. The
website is http://people.tribe.net/papokha. (Please email
papokha AT gmail.com to make postings or with any questions.)
