What a nice list! I just spent an hour checking out all the links.

Shake it Like a Caveman (http://www.shakeitlikeacaveman.com/)
Sadlack's Heroes, Raleigh

Sometimes a duo, sometimes a one-man-band, always gtr/drums dirty electric blooz uplift from the mountains. Karen Mann has video & more info for you: http://mannsworld.blogspot.com/2008/04/unexpected-gems-in-unexpected-places.html

Saturday, June 14
Hazerai (http://www.myspace.com/hazerai)
Grappling Hook (http://www.myspace.com/torchmaraudersgrapplinghook)
The Travesties
Bull City Headquarters, Durham

If you like loud frantic music, but you're sick of all the post-hardcore posturing, then this is the show for you. Hazerai are fast and screamy, but they're more paranoia than pose. The Grappling Hook are just plain fucking nuts: gtr/bass doubleneck, organ/synth, crackerjack drummer, and the Torch Marauder out front belting out semi-operatic spacerock epics about conquistadors and shit.

Also on the bill, the Durham debut of The Travesties, featuring 3/5ths of the original Jett Rink (yes, including Viva), as well as one of the greatest rock drummers in the state, Chuck Garrison.

Saturday, June 14
Dawn Chorus (http://www.myspace.com/dawnchorus)
Shearwater (http://jound.com/shearwater/main.html)
Wembley (http://www.myspace.com/wembleystadium)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Local 506 owner Glenn Boothe lists Wembley as one of his favorite current local bands, and given frontman Neven Carswell's resume (Regina Hexaphone, ex-Laramie UK), it's easy to see why.

Sunday, June 15
Firewater (http://www.myspace.com/realfirewater)
Bear in Heaven (http://www.myspace.com/bearinheaven)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Monday, June 16

*SONS (http://www.myspace.com/sonsofthesun)
Everthus the Deadbeats
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Wednesday, June 18
Luego (http://luegomusic.com/)
Broad Street Cafe, Durham

This is a free show.

Wednesday, June 18
Lam! Lam! (http://www.myspace.com/lamlamband)
Skywire (http://www.myspace.com/skywire)
The Homewreckers (http://www.myspace.com/jackandjillhomewrecker)
Princess and the Criminals (http://myspace.com/princessandthecriminals)
Marvell Building, Durham

Wednesday, June 18
Savage Knights (http://www.retroactivedynamics.com)
Grasslung
Pelerine
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Savage Knights are from Raleigh, and they play an awesome amalgam of freaky skronk-jazz and kinda sludgy metallic grind-rock.

Thursday, June 19
Hammer No More the Fingers (http://www.hnmtf.com)
I Was Totally Destroying It (http://www.reverbnation.com/iwastotallydestroyingit)
Tir Na Nog, Raleigh

This is the latest in Tir na nOg's local bands, local beers series, cosponsored by WKNC. IWTDI and HNMTF are about the catchiest (um, except for the names) young indie-rock bands working the 15/501 axis.

Thursday, June 19
Centro-Matic (http://www.centro-matic.com/)
The Ms (http://www.myspace.com/thems)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Thursday, June 19
Dr. Powerful (http://drpowerful.googlepages.com)
Worn in Red (http://www.myspace.com/worninred)
Hazerai (http://www.myspace.com/hazerai)
Reservoir, Carrboro

Friday, June 20
The Midnight Gladness Band
Dry Heathens (http://www.myspace.com/dryheathens)
The Backwaits
CCB Plaza (aka The Bull's Balls), Durham

The City of Durham regularly sponsors shows at the somewhat mysterious CCB Plaza (as part of the downtown refurbishing, they really seemed to want to make it the new heart of Durham, but the proportions are screwy, and their first move was to bulldoze the tiny tree-lined parking lot that used to be there, and replace it with thousands of bricks, so it's kind of the Death Valley of Durham at this point . . . and don't even get me started on the emphatically anatomically correct statue of Major The Bull).

This show coincides with the Third Friday art walk & etc, so you can check out the Foster St. gallery axis & hear some homegrown cranky indie-rock from the Dry Heathens at more or less the same time.

Friday, June 20
Double Negative (http://www.myspace.com/thedoublenegative)
Tooth (http://www.myspace.com/toothrocks)
Brain Handle
The Claw (http://www.myspace.com/theclawmetal)
Bull City Headquarters, Durham

The best hardcore band (Double Negative) *and* the best metal band (Tooth) in the state of North Carolina, on one bill, a few blocks from my apartment? Fuck. Yes.

Tooth frontman J-Me Guptill was telling me last month that they consider Philadelphia's The Claw to be their long-lost evil twin band, or something like that, so . . .

Friday, June 20
Subscape Annex (http://www.subscapeannex.com)
Bryce Clayton Eiman (http://www.myspace.com/bryceclaytoneiman)
The Dig (http://www.myspace.com/thedigisup)
The Moonatiks
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Friday, June 20
The Love Language (http://www.myspace.com/thelovelanguage)
Thao and the Get Down Stay Down (http://www.myspace.com/thaomusic)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Friday, June 20
Gray Young (http://www.myspace.com/grayyoung)
Shakermaker (http://shakermaker.org/)
Birds & Arrows (http://www.myspace.com/birdsandarrows)
Jack Sprat Cafe, Chapel Hill

Shakermaker's new album has one miraculously perfect song (the first one, "Frenchie") and a bunch of other pretty-good ones that don't really even sound like the work of the same band. If they're smart, they'll figure out a way to play it twice during their set, because it's exactly the kind of song you instantly want to hear a second time.

Friday, June 20
Randy Whitt and the Grits (http://www.randywhitt.com/)
The Cave, Chapel Hill

Saturday, June 21
Annuals (http://www.myspace.com/annuals)
Lonnie Walker (http://www.myspace.com/lonniewalker)
ArtsCenter, Carrboro

Saturday, June 21
The Old Ceremony (http://www.theoldceremony.com/)
Max Indian (http://www.myspace.com/maxindian)
Pour House, Raleigh

Saturday, June 21
Joe Romeo & the Orange County Volunteers (http://www.myspace.com/joeromeomusic)
Rosewater Secession
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Saturday, June 21
Milemarker (http://stickfiguredistro.com/milemarker)
Fin Fang Foom (http://www.lovitt.com/artists/finfangfoom.html)
Bellafea (http://www.bellafea.com/)
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Now that Fin Fang Foom bassist Eddie Sanchez is pulling double-duty in Bellafea, his cruciality is even more apparent. Bellafea are about 400x bigger as a three-piece than they were as a duo.

The capsule history of Milemarker is available at their website (milemarker.org) . . . for those of you who already know it or are too lazy to click, the important tidbits are:

* original (Year Zero) lineup (Laney, Burian, Davis), with the addition of my favorite Milltown bartender/drummer/rapper John Bowman.
* This is a single US warmup show before a 2-week European tour

Saturday, June 21
The Ts (http://www.myspace.com/thettttt)
The Names
Summers of Amber
Slim's Downtown, Raleigh

Sunday, June 22
Portastatic (http://www.portastatic.com)
Sarah P. Duke Gardens, Durham

Duke Performances continues its push into the wider music world with a series of outdoor shows at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, featuring a wide range of NC-connected groups. Tonight it's Portastatic; future shows include Bowerbirds & Les Savy Fav, but also eastern-NC brother-harmony country, western-NC Sacred Steel, oldschool black a-capella gospel, and the Madison Elites, Durham representatives of the United House of Prayer for All People Shout Band tradition.

Shows start at 7:00, and all but the Les Savy Fav are at Duke Gardens on Sunday evenings throughout the summer.

Tuesday, June 24
Sharron Kraus (http://www.sharronkraus.com/)
United Bible Studies (http://www.myspace.com/unitedbiblestudies)
Jenks Miller (http://www.myspace.com/horsebacknoise)
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

This is a CD-release show for Jenks Miller's new solo CD, "Approaching the Invisible Mountain," which is a beautiful set of solo electric guitar pieces that might remind you of John Fahey, but remind me most of Neil Young's Dead Man soundtrack.

Tuesday, June 24
Scarlet Rider (http://www.myspace.com/thescarletrider)
Devon Williams (http://www.myspace.com/devonwilliams)
Local 506, Chapel Hill
