This week at NIGHTLIGHT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Thursday 12.6.07::::Singer-songwriter night

GEOFF REACHER
C. SMOAK (of Simple)
REID JOHNSON (of Schooner)

>From Jenks: "Geoff Reacher inhabits a singular niche among other
forward-thinking songwriters, dressing his own brand of electro-infused
country rock inside a swagger. C Smoak is a veteran of contemporary Triangle
indie-pop bands North Elementary, Casting Company, and Simple. Reid
Johnson's outfit, Schooner, plays delicate, catchy and morose indie rock.
Records on Pox World Empire and 54'40 or Fight."

See: myspace.com/geoffreacher

show starts 9:30PM / / it's $5

Friday 12.7.07:::

SAVAGE KNIGHTS
JASON WICK + friends
PHON
(Charalambides has cancelled)

Jenks says: "Jacob Wick is a composer and trumpet-player who performs with
bunches and bunches of left-field luminaries. His current work explores
texture and density in an avant-jazz ensemble setting. Phon, Raleigh's
premier improv/noise duo, layers singing bowls, guitar loops, and textural
static in a ladder-climb to the Orm. Savage Knights play sludgy out-jazz.
Retired Rambo drops AK, picks up sax?"

Saturday 12.8.07 ::::::::::::::a hot one!::

CAVE
CANTWELL GOMEZ + JORDAN
CLANG QUARTET
BUCKETOVSCISSORS
MONOBRAU
plus: SCOTTY IRVING + RYAN MARTIN annual collabo set

CAVE is a krautrock-y (is this term offensive?) jam rock outfit with Terry
Plumming head/noiser Rotten Milk lurking somewhere in the mix. Their riffs
are pledged to ambiguous higher psychic purposes. I'm intrigued! See:
myspace.com/realreelpro
CANTWELL GOMEZ+JORDAN are long time NL faves, skittish Durham not-rock,
not-jazz, nowave(?), math??? that gets more intense each time I see them
play. I think they've been on a long upswing since that Coughs/Amoral show
in 2005. http://cantwellgomezandjordan.com/
CLANG QUARTET is practically the NL house band. Scotty Irving does a highly
narrative-oriented performance with some strong improv elements involving
drums, noise, costume changes. See John 3:16 for more details This is the
first ever Clang holiday show, and of course Christmas is a very special
time for Scotty, so I'm sure his enthusiasm will spill over into a really
swell set. Also, check out his LP on RRRecords! It's really good.
BUCKETOVSCISSORS is the harsh noise expatriated from Greenville NC to
Germany. His show last December was gritty and very satisfying, suiting cold
weather, sparks and aural debris landing where-it-may.
MONOBRAU is on tour with Cave, will deliver a 20min psychedelic journey for
all you willing..........

Me and Scotty did a spontaneous set at a noise show last December when one
of the performers, Armenia, didn't show up. We had so much fun we're doing
it again this year!

STARTS 10PM / / 6$

the Winds" and "Musical Brotherhoods of the Trans-Saharan Highway".It's free
I think? www.sublimefrequencies.com

MON 12.10.07::::: ECSTATIC NOISE / RAPTURUOUS ELECTRONICS / a real scene
with some renowned West Coasters and local spirited fumblers, in the dark,
RARE MONDAY SHOW! multiple PAs...........

KILT
ACRE
BOYZONE
ASPLUNDH CADET

There are a lot of enticing details about this show that I will try to
recount from various press sources as well as heresay, bare with me,
basically you should come to this show - here we go below:

KILT is Raven Chacon and Bob Bellerue. "Raven is one of the few American
Indian composers working in the world today. His work ranges from quiet,
almost silent music for classical
chamber instruments and ensembles to solo noise performances involving
devices created by Chacon himself." Bob runs a fine label called Anarchymoon
Records (they just released a collection of Smegma singles, "The Smell
Remains the Same"- he should have a ton of records in tow for the show for
you to peruse and purchase if you want). He is also a theatre designer, Los
Angeles Free Music Society collaborator, and used to head the
"sub-garde/experimental" LA performance space Ill Coral, and so much more.
He says: "my work is based in feedback circuits used for synthesis;
recontextualized field recordings; texture/drone/nonmusical instruments
(shanai, rebab, gambuh, chinese cymbals, hunting calls, junk metal, sheets
of glass); and a performance presence best characterized as
animist/animalistic." KILT should be awesome!

Some hype:

" Filling the booming structure with dark rumbles, antic squeedles and sheer
blather,
Bellerue fully engages the cavernous sonics, creating chittering walls of
echoed overtones
and hints of eternal combustion. He roars through the space like a giant
robot, spluttering
sparks and evil intent all the way." The Wire (Dec 2006)

" a wicked ride through high force audio death wind" Bull Tongue / Arthur
(June 2007)

" the BEST DRONE to be made in the past few years... Will keep you OVER
satisfied till
the next TNB/ORGANUM collab... HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!" Hanson Records

" a beautiful and serene crawl through some black sonic underworld, ambient,
but
subtly harsh, dreamlike, but ominous and mysteriously fucked up. The sound
can
be cavernous one second, machinelike the next." Aquarius Records

See halfnormal.com for more info, also anarchymoon.com
ACRE also hails from the Northwest, playing somehow minimal-but-maximal
walls of CRUSHING drone.

BOYZONE will bring a softer touch, some theatrics, some cathartic moments -
how can I possibly describe after typing up so many accolades above. You
will be 'crushed' by our enthusiasm.

ASPLUNDH CADET is Andy formerly of Tomandandy, recently discharged from the
military and wanting to jam way-raw noise

Plus: Ainsley Morse will be bartending! Starts 10PM following TRIVIA, it's
5$! Come!!!
