Tues 8/14 - Pterodactyl / Bellafea / Glass Witch - 9:30 PM $6 OMG -
Long time Chapel Hill skinny-dippers P-Dac haven't played at
Nightlight since the very first Boner Machine show ever. They played
the Pritchard Basement with such ferocity and powerful jump that the
cops invoked the laws of the State of North Carolina in an attempt to
desist the rock and roll nastiness that all but threatened the
relatively farcical serenity of the Pritchard/Carr/Church vortex. Now
they return to the cop-free serenity of the Nightlight inner sanctum
to just seriously rock the fuck out of yours and yours. They are also
nice dudes. Bellafea is Heather's band - they play rock music too,
with pretty singing and screaming and thunderous drums and I guess
Eddie Sanchez is in the band now too, which is kinda crazy, as his low
end is smoother than a baby's tuckus. Glass Witch is Ryan Martin and
Andrea Stroud. You should come check them out, for they combine
luscious vocalizations with epic keyboard plunges that melt sandwich
layers of raspy theme songs into new ballads of emotion, power, lust,
pride, and confusion. Plus, Ryan sometimes does some really acrobatic,
yet stationary, manipulations of his body that are sure to please or
confuse, depending on your frame of reference.

Wed 8/15 - Butterflies / Embarrassing Fruits / Jason Dove - 9:30 PM $5
(Description for this show is courtesy the fine folks at Trekky
Records! Thanks Emma!) Butterflies, the musical brainchild of Josh
Kimbrough, crafts its songs around articulate guitar lines and honest
lyrical content. Using rich, layered arrangements that are intricate,
yet still intimate, Butterflies create a soundscape that is as
beautiful as a meadow full of Monarchs. Expect to leave this show with
a fragment of some haunting melody fluttering in your mind.

Embarrassing Fruits is a hot, rowdy summer night epitomized in song.
Their simple but solid combination of raw guitar riffs, punchy
drumbeats, and thick bass lines is reminiscent of the early 90's when
indie rock in its purest form reigned as the undisputed musical king.
The Fruits' set will consist almost entirely of new rock tunes you
would be embarrassed to miss.

Baltimore-based songbird Jason Dove is making a stop in Chapel Hill to
showcase his brand of engaging indie pop. Lush and melodious at one
moment and edgy the next, all of Dove's songs are catchy as can be.
With tracks that are swoonworthy and danceworthy alike, Dove is a
noteworthy act to see.

Thurs 8/16 - Killick, Bivins, and Davis / Mike Tamburo / Tusk Lord -
9:30 PM - Killick Erik Hinds developed his very own mastery of an
obscure instrument called the H'arpeggione. It is a demon instrument,
an upright 12 string guitar with sympathetic strings. I am not an
expert, do not claim to be one, so I can only comment that having seen
him live, I must say that he rulez. He also runs a label called
solponticello. Beat that with your rice krispie tennis shoe attitude,
my child. Bivins and Davis (Jason and Ian) are local yokels with a
penchant for assembling impressively minimalist free jazz sounds, a
lot of that scrape thump twing twang kinda goodies, not Skittles, more
like conversation hearts. Mike Tamburo is a big loveable dude from
D.C. area who plays a mean guitar and explores some serious drone and
peace with his strings and picks.

Fri 8/17 - They Shoot Horses, Don't They? / Cantwell, Gomez, & Jordan
/ Maple Stave / Hi Red Center - 10 PM $7- Yo they KILLED ME in
Greenville, the place where RAM says you can get stabbed one day and
still go out drinking the next. TSHDT played half in the breakfast
nook half in the kitchen and inspired an all-out pots n pans
percussion WAR. Now they're popping out on Kill Rock Stars, which
means they've hit the big/small time - friends from Canada we
re-welcome you to North Carolina, home of painted underwear, ceiling
footprints, and making out all the night long with someone elses main
squeeze. Say cacophany.

Sat 8/18 - Kapow Music / The Private Sea / Nathan Oliver - 10 PM
