Sunday - 7/22 - Neu Romance - As written by Chico AKA dJ Madcow: "After 10
long months of hibernation Neu Romance is once again open for pleasure. Every
Sunday night for 3 1/2 years the DJ's, bands, bartenders, and bar-dancers
spiced up downtown Raleigh with their own unique collection of music, food,
and revelry. Kings Barcade, the original home of the weekly show, is gone
(for now), and Neu Romance has been quietly looking for a new home ever
since. Starting this Sunday, Tir Na Nog Irish Pub will be that home. A
surprising choice to some, but a perfect fit for others, this downtown
Raleigh landmark provides a wonderful opportunity to once again celebrate
diversity and inclusivity through music and food, and through the making of
new friends and the reuniting of old ones. Kings was special, and will always
hold a sacred part in the hearts and minds of the Neu Romance faithful. Tir
Na Nog will be the next chapter, and within it will be born new adventures,
new memories,
and new loves. As always New Romance is free, with the exception of special
events. Madcow, Castro, Drew Diggle, Le Bag, Kiko, Mark T., Krazerock,
Esotic, Cut-Less, and all the old school favorites will be regular residents
on these upcoming Sundays. "Yo's Jams IV" is already scheduled, and "Pink
Beats VI" is in the works. Also there will be free food at the Irish pub
after their kitchen closes at 10pm, as well as drinks specials just for
Sunday. It will probably feel a little odd at first, but don't forget that in
the beginning of Neu Romance @ Kings there was hardly anyone there at all.
The proof is in the eating of the pudding, they say. And I say, "Let's eat!".

Hello! Sara Bell, fearless leader of Regina Hexaphone, will be
playing a solo show at the Cave this Sunday, July 22. Opening the
show will be our SuperFan Records labelmate(s?) Monologue Bombs
(a.k.a. Scott Phillips). Look for things to start on the early side,
around 8ish. Chris Parker of the Independent Weekly had this to say:
"Sara Bell's lovely voice and charming presence anchors Regina
Hexaphone, which serves a sterling blend of handclap-enabled pop awash
in textures and slow-core shimmer. A talented, veteran musician on
her own, it should be entertaining to hear the pocketsize rendition."
Other news: we've got a bunch more shows upcoming, as well as a brand
new record to be released! First, a star-studded night on Saturday,
July 28, as we rock the Cave again. Mr. John Harrison of the great
North Elementary will open with a solo set, followed by Ghosts I've
Met, which features sometimes-RH'er and full-time Brooklynite Margaret
White. Ms. White will then join us for at least part of our set, and
we're very much looking forward to rocking with her again! That same
night a band called Wembley will be opening for the Comas and Great
Northern just down the street at Local 506. If the planets align just
right, Nathan may be able to join us for part of the Cave show as
well.
Sunday, August 5 we'll be playing in the parking lot at Sadlack's as
part of a benefit show for the Carolina Rollergirls! Then we're off
on a wee N.C. tour which will take us to Charlotte on August 16,
Asheville on August 17, Greensboro (still tentative) on August 18, and
wind us up back in Raleigh on August 19 for the Boylan Heights 100th
anniversary party (opening for the Connells, and it'll also be
Nathan's birthday!). And, finally, if all goes as anticipated, "Into
Your Sleeping Heart" will be released in September! Our CD release
party is scheduled for September 15 at Local 506. More details to
follow later...
See you around,
