Wednesday - 7/11 - Jazz Anew vs. Intro - Jazz Anew returns briefly as
DJ.exe prepares for relocation to fair NYC. The Jazz Anew electronic music
night charged by DJ.exe and video artist Esotic first held court at Humble

Gallery. Not to mention the distinct revelry introduced by the themed and
costumed events at Kings and such, as well as the creation of the bombastic
Chapel Hill/Durham Erectro Lock fetes. (exe and Esotic LOVE dig both alter
egos and Halloween!) So we are upon one of the last times to check the duo
and listen to some future electro booty music. Not to miss. Also music by

Lot's Going On This Week -
Saxapahaw Rivermill Farmers' Market & Music Series -
Saturdays in Saxaphaw - July 14th, 2007 Market 5-8 pm Music 6-8pm
on the haywagon stage it's
The Two Dollar Pistols~ !!!!!!!
THE INDEPENDENT: MUSIC WORTH LEAVING THE HOUSE FOR:
Two Dollar Pistols, Saxapahaw Music Series

John Howie Jr.'s warm, velvet baritone is enough to melt your heart, =20
whether or not he's applying to the ache of which he sings. His tears-=20=

in-the-beer honky-tonk owes a debt to George Jones, which he pays =20
without compunction. On their excellent fifth album, Here Tomorrow, =20
Gone Today, though, Howie and his better-every-album Pistols tinker =20
with their success, occasionally kicking their boots up into =20
occasional bits of welcome soul and rock dust. 6 p.m. =97CP

Full on slide guitar, honky-tonk, and non-ironic country at that. =20
And, my word, have you heard this man sing? John Howie Jr is blessed =20
with a fine set of baritone pipes. He seems to know how to wear a =20
hat, too. - Lonesome Music

The Two Dollar Pistols have long been favorites with the alt.country =20
crowd, which is fine, but also a bit misleading. Simply put, there=92s =20=

nothing =93alt=94 about the Pistols=97this is hardcore honkytonk all the =
=20
way. Here Tomorrow, Gone Today has more in common with Merle Haggard =20
and Waylon Jennings than anything spawned by Uncle Tupelo. Between =20
the band=92s traditionalist arrangements, the sturdy C&W melodies and =20=

leader John Howie=92s classic baritone, =93I Don=92t Know You (But I =
Don=92t =20
Like You),=94 =93Nothing Left of Me=94 and =93Stranger Things Have =
Happened=94 =20
would have ruled country radio in the days before Brooks & Dunn. Dale =20=

Watson would be proud. Michael Toland - Live Journal

The Haw River Assembly is coming over from 4-6 for a special program =20
open to all! Finding River Critters: Citizen Water Quality Monitoring =20=

on the Haw River in Saxapahaw!
Enjoy a few hours by the Haw River, with others interested in stream =20
ecology and monitoring. We'll dip our nets and turn over rocks in the =20=

river to find critters (known scientifically as =93benthic =20
macroinvertebrates=94) that live there. The critters we look for are =20
more and less pollution sensitive, so they can tell us a lot about =20
the health of the stream. Join us by the water, meet some fellow =20
river-lovers, hunt for creek life, and learn about water quality =20
monitoring. The Haw River Watch Project (sponsored by the Haw River =20
Assembly, www.hawriver.org) is holding this streamside training on =20
river monitoring for water quality.

What: Streamside Haw River Watch Monitoring Training, taught by Haw =20
River Watch Project Coordinator Cynthia Crossen. We will learn how to =20=

measure a stream's water quality by identifying the number and type =20
of water bugs (macroinvertebrates), and by doing simple chemical =20
tests. This event is free and open to the public.

When: Saturday, July 14, 2007, 4 =96 6 pm (Note: If raining, this event =20=

will be cancelled--please call 919-542-3827 (or if no answer, =20
919-360-7890) on the day of the event, if in doubt.)

Where: At the Haw River in Saxapahaw. We will meet at the information =20=

desk near the haywagon stage for =93Saturdays in Saxapahaw=94 ( http://=20=

www.rivermillvillage.com/satinsax.html).

Bring: Waterproof boots or water shoes; protective footwear for a =20
short walk. Be prepared to be outside, take a short walk to the =20
river, and be near (or in!) the river. (It is tick season--you may =20
want the protection of bug spray.)

At the Farmers' Market, Lots of ready-to-eat delicious goods and =20
we've got Flowers- Honey- Melons, Fresh Grilled Corn, strawberries, =20
heirloom pork, cheese, foccacia, cookies, breads, and treats, eggs, =20
fresh veggies and produce and delicious jellies, chutneys, honey and =20
more! The Barbecue Joint has set up shop and will be with us EVERY =20
WEEK this summer selling a wide variety of dinners including =20
vegetarian options AND this year we have a growing artisan market =20
with beautiful handcrafted items including a new toymaker with great =20=

stuffies for kids, pottery, jewelry, wooden toys, birdhouses and =20
furniture.

In the Kid's Area CERES will be setting up exciting events and =20
activities for children including the Famous Zipboat ( a kayak on a =20
zipline - low to the ground) the Environmentally Engineered Slip-N-=20
Slide, created in the shape of the Haw River this year complete with =20
tributaries, a new children's musical village, face painting, =20
children's arts & crafts. The weekly kid's parade is just wonderful =20
as the kids travel across the hills humming tunes and laughing it up! =20=

Children's Activities made possible by www.Bioallies.com

Festivities take place in central Saxapahaw next to the Post Office =20
and across from the Saxapahaw Rivermill every Saturday from 5pm-8pm =20
through the end of August. Admission is free though donations are =20
appreciated, organizers pass around a "Swan Bucket" each week for the =20=

band.

The series is sponsored by the Saxapahaw Rivermill and by local =20
businesses including Anderson Homes' Haw Village, Open Eye Cafe, =20
Fifth Season Gardening, Townsend Bertram and The Barbecue Joint.

Saturday events take place outside in downtown Saxapahaw next to the =20
Post Office. The Farmers Market and Children's Activities run from =20
5-8 and bands play on the Haywagon Stage at the Meadow Amphitheater =20
from 6-8. For more information, a schedule of bands and farmers, =20
directions, pictures and more please visit www.rivermillvillage.com =20
or call 336 376 5694. COME ON OVER TO SAXAPAHAW!

ALSO GOINGS ON ABOUT TOWN:
Special Fundraiser for Bradley Saunders!!!!
Bradley is a young graduating senior from Southern High School. On =20
his last day of school, he was excused early because of exemption of =20
exams for straight A's. That same day he was in a tragic car =20
accident leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He was an avid =20
athlete and star wrestler. The doctors have told him that he will =20
never walk again. The family has been devastated emotionally, =20
physically, and financially. He spent 3 weeks at UNC and was not =20
able to attend his own graduation. His dad accepted his diploma in =20
his honor.
