As much as I love WUNC and NPR in general, Prairie Home Companion has
to be one of my least favorite things the station airs (although I do
find myself chuckling at the occaisional Guy Noir segment.)

By chance, I caught the tail-end of the Carolina Chocolate Drops
performance yesterday and it was utterly amazing (I had no idea what I
was listening to until afterward.) Oddly enought, I caught the same
segment today by happenstance.

Anyway, the CCD's do a cover of a contemporary hit song, and though I
recognize the song, I can't think of what it's called or who it's by.
Anybody on here know what I'm talking about?

While I'm at it, it seems like deja vu all over again for the triangle
music scene. It was a little over ten years ago when this area, known
for it's indie rock, had two non-indie acts, Ben Folds Five and
Squirrel Nut Zippers, come out of left-field to get national
attention. Now, it seems like the Avett Brothers and the Chocolate
Drops are doing it again.

And neither act has ever played Local 506! Interesting!?!?...glenn
