This week at the Saxapahaw Rivermill Farmer's Market and Music Series GREAT BIG GONE
Great Big Gone hails from the NC Piedmont and brews up a twangy blend of electrified porch picking, finger licking, roots rocking, western swinging, honky tonking Americana all garnished with a pinch of cajun. Formerly members of The Brown Mountain Lights, Great Big Gone is not to be missed!
"Janet Place's voice, reminiscent of a huskier Patsy Cline ... drips with country hard luck and hard-won wisdom." - Silas House, No Depression
Rich harmonies, back porch-styled strumming and picking, all tempered with their deep sensibility of the common ground between old time music, straight country and melodic pop- Chris Toenes - The Independent Weekly.
"This is dead good pickin’ & singin’ that compares favorably with the Asylum Street Spankers and dipping further back, Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks. Yummy like home cooking, not too fancy, yet a reminder of how satisfying meat-and-taters electrified front porch music can be." - Dennis Cook - San Francisco - pauserecord.com
Playing on the Hay Wagon Stage this Saturday JUNE 9th!
The Farmers' Market, is keeping us all well fed and healthy with delicious strawberries, heirloom pork, cheese, foccacia, cookies, breads, and treats, eggs, fresh veggies and produce and delicious jellies, chutneys, honey and more! The Barbecue Joint has set up shop and will be with us EVERY WEEK this summer selling a wide variety of dinners including vegetarian options AND this year we have a growing artisan market with beautiful handcrafted items including pottery, jewelry, wooden toys, birdhouses and furniture.
Every week, CERES Saxapahaw's local quality of life organization, sets up exciting events and activities for children including the Famous Zipboat ( a kayak on a zipline - low to the ground) the Environmentally Engineered Slip-N-Slide, created in the shape of the Haw River this year complete with tributaries, a new children's musical village, face painting, children's arts & crafts. The weekly kid's parade is just wonderful as the kids travel across the hills humming tunes and giggling! Children's Activities made possible by www.Bioallies.com
Festivities take place in central Saxapahaw next to the Post Office and across from the Saxapahaw Rivermill every Saturday from 5pm-8pm through the end of August. Admission is free though donations are appreciated, organizers pass around a "Swan Bucket" each week for the band.
