Maybe not this Christmas but his prediction of the future is,
I think, accurate. The record companies (and radio) have been
shooting themselves in the foot since back when they stopped
making vinyl records. I believe television sells more records today
than radio, despite the fact that TV was largely a music wasteland
for it's first 35 or so years
Lefsetz's description of the agents/promoters/managers new
roles sounds kind of like it was in the 1800's and early 1900's
before records or radio existed.
BTW I have a new iPod. I've been loading my cd collection on it
but have no interest in buying music from the Internet. In many
cases it's cheaper to buy cd's from Wal-Mart, at least for as long
as they still sell them.

eyeballs and heavy lifting .... two terms i haven't heard since the
bubble burst~ ! Does anyone really believe the next U2 isn;t out
there? and that they won't play MSG? crazy thought, bob

i hitched a ride to the beach this weekend, and my brother had
control of the dial, 101.7, AOR i rememeber and could sing along to
since i was 13 years old, it was a time warp, the same friggin'
playlist! .... and fuel for millions of people who sell out skynard,
the police, etc...it even helps create downtown raleigh live (the
county fair without the fair),,,

back in the day, i had to make my way to hartford, ct to even find out
about new wave bands.... no internet, only word of mouth and zines if
you could find one, i envy the young now, big worlds outside their
suburban walls by just logging on....

mp3 will make way for a higher bit rate digital format - i hope - i'm
sore from bumping 320's up to wav's to burn to disk...

anyway, the net helped me find my favorite new band, Silversun
Pickups, love the lazy eye (sorta psychedelic Smashing Pumkins vs. a
poppy Sonic Youth) - who of course, I missed on their pass through the
triangle....uhhhhh....
