El Cuscatleco isn't new (it's been around at least 4 or 5 years), but it is very good. I've never had the pork chop. I'll have to try that! Oh, and I think it's El Salvadorean.

I second that! Piedmont is unreal. The porkchop I had there was an
absolute culinary triumph. http://www.piedmontrestaurant.com/home.html
Another excellent porkchop to be had is at El Cuscatlero, a new
Guatemalan restaurant on Garret Road in Durham (near the 15-501
intersection, on the non-Bojangles side). They also have an amazing
mariachi band there every other Friday night, complete with two
trumpets and two violins!

Just wanted to state briefly for the record that the meal I had at
Piedmont last night was one of the best meals I've ever eaten, anywhere.
Specifically: the duck-liver mousse & the pork belly, while collectively
subtracting about 18 years from my life, left me in a state of utter
ecstasy that I'm still kinda buzzed on.
Those people are making amazing food, in a beautiful understated space,
and they're charging $5 too little for nearly every item on the menu. By
the time we left, at around 8:30 on a Monday night, nearly every table
was full. Abby said that the weekends are already cram-packed. Go on a
weeknight (and leave any fat-phobias you may harbor at home, I guess),
and while you're enjoying yr meal, take a minute to marvel at the fact
that 2 of the owner/operators of the joint also played a big role in the
recording of one of the best local CDs of 2006, Erie Choir's "Slighter
Awake." Go Durham.

p.s. lunch at Rue Cler, while marred by a few too many canned/jarred
ingredients, did feature some fucking delicious bread courtesy of our
own Kevin Farmer. It's fresh daily at 2:00 p.m, and while the long-term
plan seems to be that you order yr bread by noon for pickup at 2:00,
here at the beginning it appears to be a fairly safe play to just show
up at 2:00 and grab a loaf. Had it again for breakfast this morning.
Outstanding.
