SAXAPAHAW RIVERMILL FARMERS' MARKET & MUSIC SERIES

The LAST of this summer's Saturday in Saxapahaw series will be held TOMORROW, SATURDAY August 26!!! If you've been meaning to come or to come back one more time this year DON'T MISS IT!! It has been a great season with great food, great music and great people. Many Thanks to everyone who participated, attended and helped make the whole thing possible. We'll be starting the series up again in May of '07. Stay tuned for other special events throughout the year on the website www.rivermillvillage.com The Saxapahaw Oktoberfest will take place Saturday October 21st from 3-8 with a host a great bands including The Countdown Quartet, Memphis, Wood & Steel, and Haw River Waltz among others! We'll have a host of different brews and wines selected and lots of food from everyone's favorite Barbecue Joint and many of the Farmers will return in Halloween Costumes!!! with Fall and Winter fare! CERES, Saxapahaw's local quality of life organization is already concocting great rides and activities for the kids and we'll have PUMPKINS to carve and paint and light up down by the river in the evening. Please help spread the word!

The annual Saxapahaw Art Show will take place Saturday and Sunday November 18th and 19th at the Saxapahaw Rivermill Retreat Center (www.rivermillvillage/retreat) featuring a diverse group of local artists with work for sale and on display and we're sure to have more gatherings throughout the winter.

So come on over this weekend to celebrate a great summer and see the amazing summer series headline band
BIG MEDICINE, consisting of Kenny Jackson, Jim Collier, Joe Newberry, and Bobb Head, playing string band music of the rural South. These guys are just astoundingly talented playing old-time melodies and mountain harmonies, ancient ballads and archaic fiddle tunes, heart songs, hollers, hymns, and a touch of early bluegrass music with remarkable power, nuance, and timeless appeal, a balm for the modern maladies of the soul. The Farmers' Market is running strong with everything good under the sun - come on out, support your local hardworking farmers stock up and treat yourself to something delicious, fresh and lovingly grown! - Blueberries, Wine, Flowers, Tomatoes, Jellies, Chutney, Honey, Tarts, Fresh Organic Breads and Baked Goods, Pork, Sausage, Eggs, Squash, Watermelon, Cantaloupe and More. And The Barbecue Joint will be with us serving great fresh entrees for hungry picnicers. Delicious dishes for everyone to enjoy! 5:00 - 8:00 pm

FOR THE KIDS- Last Chance!!Bring your suits - The Fantastic ZipBoat is up and running along with the last appearance this season of the beloved Giant Slip-N-Slide, we might even let a few parents ride this week!! Sprinklers games and arts and crafts for the children created and run by Saxapahaw's local quality of life organization CERES, with thanks to the Saxapahaw Rivermill, Anderson Homes, Great Outdoor Provision Company, and Southern States of Graham for helping make the kids activities possible! 5:00 - 8:00 pm. All children's activities are FREE - and donations are appreciated!

The Saxapahaw Rivermill Farmers' Market, Music Series and Kid's Activities are in downtown Saxapahaw outside next to the Post Office and across from the Saxapahaw Rivermill. It's a beautiful day out and all are welcome.

Paddle Dinner at Benjamin Vineyards & Winery
with the Haw River Canoe and Kayak Company

September 9, 2006 (Paddle @ 3pm; Dinner @ 7pm)

Experience the Richness of the Haw River Valley!

This unique trip includes a guided paddle on the Haw River in the afternoon and a luxuriant five-course meal with wine pairing at Benjamin Vineyards & Winery (6516 Whitney Road) in Saxapahaw. For $75 you can see and taste the wonderful natural resources of the Haw River Valley!

The river trip will be a 2-3 hour scenic canoe/kayak trip with a Haw River Naturalist down on a stretch of river enjoyable for paddlers of all skill levels. Boat rentals, as well as transportation and equipment, are included in the fee.

Dinner, set in the winery at picturesque Benjamin Vineyards, will be a five course culinary delight accompanied by the fine wines of Andy Zeman.
