The Saturdays in Saxapahaw Summer Series starts up again this Saturday, May 6th with a thriving expanded Farmers’ Market, Great Bands and Creative Games and Activities for Kids – Every Saturday from 5pm to 8pm in Historic Saxapahaw. Come out and Support Local Farmers, have a Picnic and Listen to some Great Music out on the Hometown Hillside Natural Amphitheater. We’ve got Dancers, Hoopers and Christmas Lights in all the Trees.
Pictures, Flyers, and Detailed Band and Farmer Information Can Be Found at www.rivermillvillage.com/farmers.html
We’re kicking it all off with Memphis at 5:00 The Music Starts Early for the Launch so Don’t Miss It! Memphis’ music is perhaps described best by Jeri Rowe as "beautiful stuff in all its ragged, raise-your-glass glory" They had the stage and the audience rocking last year and they are back to get us started up again!
They’ll be followed at 6:30 by Europa Jazz playing in the tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli, and their famous “Hot Club de France.“ Their sound is evocative of bustling Paris in the 1930’s, where African-American Swing was reinterpreted by, and mixed with European Gypsy music.
The local environmental organization CERES will be creating games, events and great discoveries for children from 5pm-8pm.
Come Out and Join in the Fun and Please Help Spread the Word!
More Details and Summer Band Schedule:
The Rivermill recently opened and is almost full, the Farmers' Market is growing with some of the most acclaimed local farms joining in and we have a great line up of bands. The local environmental group, CERES is engineering creative adventures for kids every week and over the course of the summer/ fall there will be accompanying paddles with the Haw River Canoe and Kayak Company, a Haw River Assembly event, Oktoberfest, Art Shows and more!
It's a progressive phenomenon that supports local farmers, promotes healthy food, local musicians, environmentalists, outdoor enthusiasts, artisans, and artists - in the face of what could have been a sad textile mill shut down story we feel really happy about what is happening in Saxapahaw and the promise it holds for other potential adaptive mill re-use projects in North Carolina.
We'd love to get the word out to more people as it's a beautiful place, a free afternoon and evening out and all are welcome!
FARMERS’ MARKET 5pm-8pm Every Saturday.
Acclaimed local and organic farmers showcase an array of local produce: tomatoes, greens, melons, fruit, onions, garlic, potatoes, pickles, herbs, wine, breads and baked goods, meat, eggs, jellies, jams and chutneys, soaps, lotions and more. The Market is intended to support and encourage local Farmers and make fresh, healthy and organic food more easily accessible. Eat Heathy Be Bountiful!
GAMES AND ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS 5pm-8pm Every Saturday
Every week there are adventurous free activities for kids creatively designed by CERES, our local quality-of-life, environmental advocacy organization including the ever popular environmentally engineered massive slip-n-slide, the meadow zip-line, face painting, a bubble booth, and wide variety of crafts.
MUSIC SERIES 6pm-8pm Every Saturday
The Music Series tops off the day featuring great bands all summer long. The music starts each night at 6 on the haywagon stage and runs till the close of the market around 8:00, featuring North Carolina greats! Concert goers can snack on the Farmers’ Market goodies, Barbeque and Catfish Sandwiches will be available on selected weekends or bring a picnic and a blanket and spread out on the beautiful hill above the market. There are dancers and hoopers and Christmas lights in all the trees. It’s a beautiful way to spend your evening outside under the stars on a hillside above the Haw River.
*And don’t forget Oktoberfest! Mid October featuring great local microbreweries and a bunch of bands. It’s always packed and lots of fun. The music line up so far includes Countdown Quartet, Memphis, Regina Hexaphone and Saludos Compay and The Shelbys.
