WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29 - CAMPAIGN TO SHUT DOWN TORTURE FLIGHTS @ IBOOKS, 7p

North Carolina has a "home-grown" connection to torture: Aero
Contractors, which keeps planes at the Johnston County and Kinston
Global TransPark airports. The New York Times has extensively
documented that Aero supplies planes and crews for the CIA's
"extraordinary rendition" flights, in which prisoners are flown to
countries where they are interrogated and sometimes tortured. Activists
from North Carolina, St. Louis, and Chicago have brought Aero to light,
and are calling on North Carolina public officials to investigate. Come
hear about the campaign to shut down Aero's torture flights -- Christina
Cowger and others will provide the update.

APRIL 7 & 8 - CAROLINA WOMEN'S CENTER CONFERENCE -- SEXUAL
TRAFFICKING: BREAKING THE CRISIS OF SILENCE

The Carolina Women's Center is hosting a conference on the sexual
trafficking of women and children titled Sexual Trafficking: Breaking
the Crisis of Silence. The conference takes place April 7 & 8 at the
Radisson Hotel in RTP. For more information got to http://
womenscenter.unc.edu/trafficking/.

It is estimated that 600,000-800,000 people are trafficked each year.
Approximately 80 percent are women and girls, and up to 50 percent
are minors. In America, tens of thousands of foreign and native women
and children are sexually exploited every day.

This international conference on sexual trafficking, hosted by the
Carolina Women's Center and its partners, continues the fight against
commercial sexual exploitation of young women and children by raising
public awareness to the human rights violations caused by
trafficking, including its mental and physical effects on its
victims. Join your voice to the call for justice and dignity in
North Carolina and worldwide. Help stop trafficking.

***STUDENT POSTER CONTEST***
Prize money of $500, $300, or $200 if your poster is selected in a
*Student Poster Contest* sponsored by the Carolina Women's Center for
a conference on the sexual trafficking of women and children. Each
year 900,000 women and children are trafficked worldwide. It is
estimated that 50,000 are trafficked annually to the US as sex
workers. There is a lack of understanding among the general public
that trafficking is a pervasive and difficult problem. The purpose
of this poster is to show in graphic design that modern-day slavery
does exist and that it can be stopped. Your challenge is to show this
picture with a clear message and in a tasteful manner that is
suitable for public viewing.

*There are stringent guidelines for entering this contest.* For
further entry details and before creating your poster, contact Roi
Holladay at roiholladay at yahoo.com or 919/969.2646.
