*WEDNESDAYS, NOVEMBER 9, 16, 30 - 'SEARCHING FOR RADICAL IDEAS?' SERIES
WITH PROFESSOR WILLIAM MANSON @ IBOOKS, 6:30pm*

Internationalist Books is proud to announce a series of informal talks
by radical philosopher/anthropologist William Manson held on Wednesday
evenings at 6:30pm throughout the month of November. Activists often
seek a greater understanding of radical theory and these discussions
seek to enlighten those who are looking to broaden their base of knowledge.

November 9 -- THE PSYCHOLOGY OF "FASCISM": What is authoritarian
narcissism, and how does it impact racist imperialism and
military-industrialism?

November 16 -- GREEN ANARCHISM: What is green anarchism and its related
ideas of neo-Luddism, radical ecology, and ecopsychology?

November 30 -- REVIVING RADICAL HUMANISM: Discussing universal rights
and liberties. "The free development of each is based on the free
developing of all."

William Manson (Ph.D., Columbia) has written books and articles on
psychoanalytic anthropology and social theory. For many years an
adjunct professor at Rutgers and Columbia, he is now teaching such
courses as "Dissent & Integrity" and "Technology in Question" at Duke's
Continuing Studies.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 15 - WOMEN CONFRONTING GLOBALIZATION: CULTURAL RESISTANCE, FAIR TRADE AND HUMAN RIGHTS @ IBOOKS, 7pm

Next Tuesday please help us welcome 'Women Confronting Globalization: Cultural Resistance, Fair Trade and Human Rights Tour' sponsored by the Mexico Solidarity Network.

Since the Zapatista uprising began on January 1, 1994, (the first day that NAFTA went into effect) the Mexican military and paramilitaries have waged a counter insurgency war against Zapatista and sympathizer communities. Eleven years after the uprising, human rights abuses are rampant. But these communities are developing new collective strategies of resistance. Women are playing leading roles on all fronts in the struggle to build alternatives. Fair trade cooperatives provide a space for women to engage in decision-making and leadership roles, while organizing with other women.

Speakers featured:

Gabriela Martínez López is a sociologist and researcher who worked with the Center of Political Analysis and Social and Economic Research (CAPISE) in Chiapas, Mexico. Jennifer Miller is the Alternative Economy Coordinator in for the Mexico Solidarity Network. Mujeres por la Dignidad (Women for Dignity)-Participating via video message, Mujeres por la Dignidad is a cooperative of several hundred Zapatista indigenous weavers in Chiapas, Mexico.
