Big news of the evening is the artshow opening at the Newer Bigger Wootini-with-gallery (which is actually the same big gallery space where they held that poster-art show last fall) in Carr Mill Mall, from 7-midnight or so. Lotta fine locals in the show, including David K Rose (he of the robots/wrestling memes) & jerstin & Maria of my fave new rockband Tennis & the Mennonites. Ask jerstin if he'll sell you the fur-lined wheelbarrow.

On to the rock:

Friday, June 10
Kung Flude [http://www.kungflude.com/], The Dynamite Brothers
[http://www.dynamitebrothers.com/], Rubber City Rebels
[http://www.rubbercityrebels.com/], TuckerMason
[http://www.tuckermason.com/]
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Saturday, June 11
Mowing Lawns [http://www.dyss.net/mlawns.html], Fashion Design
[http://fashiondesignband.com/], Bringerer
Wetlands, Chapel Hill

This is a CD release party for the fun new Bringerer 7-song CD,
"Trink! Sink! Tanz!" which is 1 part "Chapel Hill Rock" plus 1 part
"Cheap Trick" plus 2 parts "Warm Jets era Eno" plus I dunno what else.
If you loved Ron Liberti's previous foray into guitar-playing,
Clok-Lok, then you might get a familiar warm buzz from Bringerer.

Also on the bill, the 80ish UKinvasion-ish echo-pop of Fashion Design
and the avant-folk-whatever of Mowing Lawns.

Saturday, June 11
Ahleuchatistas [http://www.ahleuchatistas.com/go.php], Cantwell,
Gomez, Jordan [http://www.cantwellgomezandjordan.com], Cinemechanica
[http://www.cinemechanica.com/]
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Cantwell Gomez & Jordan make noisy artrock that melds time-shifting
jazz-influenced rhythm-section interplay with layers of punkrock fuzz
and a fair amount of yelling of one kind or another.

Ahleuchatistas are from the Asheville area and they make fast spazzy
instrumental avant-rock. Cinemechanica are from Athens & they've been
described to me by friends as making Mathrock relevant again.

Sunday, June 12
Crane Orchard [http://www.craneorchard.com/], North Elementary
[http://www.northelementary.com], Schooner
[http://www.schoonermusic.com]
Kings, Raleigh

This is the Kings Matinee, which means it commences at around
5:30-ish.

Sunday, June 12
The Robot Ate Me [http://www.therobotateme.com/], The Whole World
Laughing, Dig Shovel Dig [http://www.digshoveldig.com/]
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Dig Shovel Dig are from Asheville & that's all I know about them. The
Whole World Laughing are a two-piece consisting of Scotty "Clang
Quartet" Irving on drums and Dave "Razzle, etc" Cantwell on massive
bi-amped piercing-shriek bass action.

Sunday, June 12
Go-Betweens [http://www.go-betweens.net/], Okkervil River
[http://www.okkervilriver.com/], Robert Skoro
[http://www.robertskoro.com/]
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

Monday, June 13
Flicker [http://www.chapel-hill.nc.us/flicker]
Cat's Cradle, Carrboro

This edition of Flicker, NC's longest-running
semi-regular/not-quite-monthly local film festival type thing, will
feature the results from the recent 2nd-annual Attack of the 50-Foot
Reels contest/party/workshop day. A bunch of people assembled & were
divided into groups, and each group got a single roll of super-8
film.

Their task: to write (or maybe "write") a script on the subject of
Fight The Power and then shoot it in-sequence (and hopefully with no
fuckups) so that the finished/developed roll could be screened with no
further edits/post-production.

The film is back from the lab, but nobody has seen it yet. You'll be
among the first.

Monday, June 13
Jonathan Richman [http://www.base.com/jonathan/jonathan.html]
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Tuesday, June 14
North Elementary [http://www.northelementary.com], Cities
[http://www.citiesmusic.com]
The Library, Chapel Hill

Wednesday, June 15
Hotel Motel [http://www.hot-mot.com], Who Killed Marilyn?
[http://www.whokilledmarilyn.com/], Glaz Almaz
[http://www.myspace.com/glazalmaz], Bringerer
Nightlight, Chapel Hill

Your latest chance to see the pop-music-just-died
and-I-barfed-in-its-gaping-mouth "pop" experimentation of Hotel Motel,
and/or to pick up a copy of the brand new Bringerer CD, and/or to see
what you get from a band that names itself for a Misfits song (and how
many bands are there named for Misfits songs? I can name 2 without
even thinking about it, and I'm not even much of a punkrocker
anymore).
