- Date: Mon, 30 May 2005 19:08:11 -0700 (PDT)
Four grrrl bands for five bucks ($5.00)!
June 4th, 8:00 pm: Femme Fête will be landing at Ooh
La Latte, bringing with it a line up of chick-rock
that will kick you to the curb. A combination of bands
from Washington, DC and Durham, NC will make up the
roster for Femme Fête. These bands have lots to give,
so get out and enjoy a night of musical mayhem at
Femme Fête!
The lineup will feature La Gorda (Washington, DC), The
Sirens (Washington, DC), Viva la Venus (Durham, NC)
and The Dirty Little Heaters (Durham, NC).
La Gorda: An all-girl indie-punk trio emerging on DC
music scene. Their music emphasizes dissonant yet
melodic bass lines, contrasting vocal harmonization
and unconventional beats and rhythm changes with
lyrical topics including witch burning, internet
dating, fellatio and dementia. Check them out at
www.la-gorda.com .
The Sirens: High-energy rock and roll with a classic
punk edge describes The Sirens, an all-female group
from the Washington, DC area and multiple WAMMIE Award
nominees. Influenced by such old school punks as The
Ramones, The Clash, Joan Jett, and Blondie, The Sirens
have achieved a no-nonsense sound all their own. Check
them out at www.thesirensband.com.
The Dirty Little Heaters are a Durham based band
formed at lightning speed in early April, 2005. The
two piece band consists of Melissa, unorthodox drummer
and Reese, singer and guitar player. Hailing from New
Joisey, Melissa has played in the bands Medusa Complex
and Darna 3 both from DC and the She-Mamas in NC.
Reese comes from the cheesy state of bitter cold
called Wisconsin and has played in Boss of Emily,
Faulty Logic and The Last Nerves. The Dirty Little
Heaters sound has been described as four chord punkish
pop rock with a hearty sprinkling of the F-bomb. The
DLHs have an electronic press kit with a rough demo
at: www.thedirtylittleheaters.com .
Viva la Venus is rock band for true music fans...bold,
powerful vocal harmonies soar above the gritty chug of
guitars, seductive bass lines and rock-solid drumming.
The debut CD release, The Never Ending Mending Story,
has received wide critical acclaim. The band received
national recognition when the track, "Mystery," was
featured in two episodes of the cable TV series,
"Strong Medicine," on Lifetime Network. Viva la Venus
new CD release, Forget the Fairy Tale, is due for
release in June 2005. Check them out at
