(Thought I had sent this out over the weekend, but didn't see it come
back. so, apologies if I've double posted this)
Hey everyone,
Want to let you know about two things:
First, just a heads up about 2 shows that WXDU is putting on at the
Duke Coffeehouse in the next 2 weeks:
Saturday, 4/10 -- 9pm -- The Ghost of Rock, Cantwell, Gomez, and
Jordan, & Blackstrap
Saturday, 4/17 -- 8pm -- Jett Rink, Permanent Darling, Dom Casual, &
Wigg Report
$6 -- BYOB -- www.duke.edu/web/coffeehouse/
Second, is that the Coffeehouse is in a bit of mess, and the Duke
administration is looking at a bunch of different scenarios of what to
do with it. I'm not really sure what all is going on, as I'm
completely at the peripheries of this. But, I've heard from Joe
Franklin, currently the General Manager of WXDU, that our faculty
advisor is part of the administration looking into making those
changes. And, that's a good thing. The Coffeehouse might end up with a
management structure similar to XDU, with a student/community
partnership running it.
As such, we encourage you to come out to the shows: we want to
demonstrate to the administration that with a little love and some
outreach to the local community, that the Coffeehouse can still be a
great venue. There will be a petition to sign, and Joe will be
documenting the shows to present to the Duke University Union, the
body that WXDU reports to and that the Coffeehouse might report to in
the future.
Hope to see you at one of the shows!
