One of the most educational and informative websites I
have seen in a very long time:
http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/kiddofspeed/page2.html
This no-frills tour of the ghost town's "dead zone" is
absolutely chilling - yet I would recommend it, even for
kids. Written in basic, fractured English by a 20-something
Russian (Ukranian?) girl with a motorcycle, she speeds
through the dead zone, snapping photos - and it is the
photos that tell the real story.
Trust me on this: you will value a visit to this site.
... and for those who think it might be a knock against the
nuclear power industry: No. No reactor in this country is
anything like that kluge at Chernobyl. However, it might
be worth noting that the effects you will see in those photos
are the type of thing that could happen here if terrorists
were successful in detonating a "dirty bomb" in the US.
Keep that in mind when making your choice for president...
