I never thought much of Charlotte while growing up,
but I've been living here for about 9 months and while
it may not be fun, there are some things going on.
True, I can't find good BBQ, and true, Manifest
Records closed, but there is a decent new club in town
called The Room (www.theroom.tv) where I caught the
Dynamite Brothers and The Weather not too long ago,
and the Rosebuds are coming later this month with a
really great Charlotte band, Pyramid
(www.sidewalkexplosion.com). Kevin Clark said
Charlotte has always "rocked" more than Chapel Hill in
an interview a month or two ago-how I don't how he can
justify that, but take it for what you will.
There are a few very interesting museums, too, of
which my favourites are the Mint Museum of Craft and
Design and The Museum of the New South. Having spent
the preceding three years living just outside of DC,
it doesn't compare at all, but it's hardly horrible.
That's probably why I spend 1-2 weekends a month back
in Chapel Hill.
