Hey look, fukkin Mothlight is playing at Kings tonight--hell of a lot
better than anything you're gonna see on TV:

Thursday, November 27
Mothlight, Pro-L, The Illustrated
Kings, Raleigh

Kings to the rescue of yr otherwise bored-n-bloated Thanksgiving
Night. This is one of the *extremely* rare Mothlight shows--drummer
Nick Whitley is super-ultra-busy with Cherry Valence, so if you want
to see him & singer/guitarist Danny Vaughn playing their brilliant
spooky gtr/drums free-jazz-blooz-noise-godhead-whatever music, you'll
have to pry yrself off the couch Tonight.

Nick's also somehow involved in Raleigh hip-hop outfit Pro-L, but
neither he nor I know anything much about The Illustrated.

Friday, November 28
Degrassi, Strange, Anderson Airplane
Bickett Gallery, Raleigh

Bickett Gallery is over on the southeast side of Five Points in
Raleigh (on Bickett, duh). This is not actually Strange that's
playing, not exactly, due to scheduling issues, but rather main
Strange instigator Dave Mueller and whatever he decides to put
together (it's actually dubbed Strange: Special Forces or something).

Anderson Airplane is a one-man gtr-drums screamy-blues
powerhouse--he's all distorto & loud in all the right places, and
stompy as all get out.

And this is the debut of Degrassi, which is a Raleigh non-cock-rock
supergroup of sorts, featuring Russ DeSena (Halifax, The Chickens),
Christie Eames (Blue-Green Gods, Orifice) and Katherine Carpenter (The
Dents).

Saturday, November 29
Sentinel, Sirens, Choke Their Rivers With Our Dead
[http://www.slavemagazine.com/choketheirrivers], Braver
Go! Studios Rm. 4, Carrboro

Saturday, November 29
Fake Swedish [http://fakeswedish.4t.com/index.html], The Butter
Brothers, Colonel Knowledge and the Lickety Splits
Local 506, Chapel Hill

Sunday, November 30
Billy Sugarfix [http://swepssax.com/~sugarfix/index2.html]
The Cave, Chapel Hill

Billy Sugarfix is the solo (sometimes even one-man-band) project of
Evil Wiener frontman Bill McCormick. Hard to imagine how anything
could get any sugarier than the Wiener's songs of love and candy, but
Billy does it.
