Dear affiliates,

I'm writing to let you know that CC board member Dorothy Gordon will be completing her term at the end of this year. Many of you know Dorothy personally and are well aware of her many contributions to this organization and to our community. She is CC's first Africa-based board member, and has provided invaluable expertise on plans for expanding our reach in a geographically and culturally diverse region. She's been a critical member of CC's Audit Committee, helping to shepherd it through organizational change. And she has been a proponent of the affiliate network strategic planning that is currently underway, and has been key in directing the board in its examination of the roles of affiliates and HQ.

I'm very grateful for the remarkable judgement and guidance that Dorothy has offered to Creative Commons. I'm very happy to also inform you that she has agreed to join CC's Advisory Council and will continue her service there.

CC is now beginning the process of recruiting for two new board members. We are now of generating a long list of names, and the board would like to invite everyone in our community to submit prospective candidates. In particular, we are looking for individuals that have strong board governance experience, including audit and finance review skills. We are also interested in candidates with legal expertise in areas of copyright and intellectual property. Finally, the board has made a strong commitment to enhancing our diversity, and ensuring good international representation. As we have one board member from Africa whose term is ending, we would favour a strong candidate that also offered experience, perspective and knowledge of the region.

Please use this Google form to submit names for consideration: https://docs.google.com/a/creativecommons.org/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScrlqDRXH_xma-kv5GmhWo4VZBUtLC89Y2NIWlTT17_G6G5nQ/viewform

I encourage each of you to think about who would make an excellent board member for Creative Commons -- their work is vital to the long-term success of the organization. If you have a suggestion, don't worry if you know ther person; what's most important is that we have a strong list of ideas to pare down to a short list of interested candidates.

The form will be accepting submissions for the next two weeks, so please submit a name today.

Thanks,
Ryan
