Thank you Tobias, I was following the Global Summit host application and I was elated to see Uganda become a finalist.

It will be awesome to bring the community to Africa.

Let's work towards this.

Dear colleagues and friends:

in case you haven’t seen Ryan Merkley’s official announcement regarding the CC Global Summit- to be held in Seoul, South Korea, later this year. We have had a very strong bid from Uganda and they made into the last round. The Uganda bid clearly showed that we are ready to host such an event in Africa and I think we should already start thinking about ways of ensuring that we host the next Global Summit here. But for now it is time to congratulate the South Korean team for their outstanding effort - and Alex and I are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the event in Seoul in October (this btw is also a first nudge from our side to investigate local funding opportunities for attending the event - please let us know how we can help in terms of providing reference letters/ letters of support etc).

Best,

Tobias & Alex

Dear affiliates,

After an exhaustive process, the Creative Commons summit selection committee, composed of staff and affiliates, has recommended Seoul, South Korea and the CC Korea team to host the 2015 Global Summit. They put forward a strong and inspiring bid, and after seeing them in action last fall, I have every confidence that they'll be a great partner in producing the conference.

The conference will run from Thursday Oct. 15 to Saturday Oct. 17, 2015.

As we have done in the past, we will offer sponsorships for affiliates who would like assistance with travel expenses. We will also put out a public call for papers and workshops shortly. There will be lots more information soon, and a public announcement in the next day or so.

This year, we hope to not only build a conference that allows the CC family to come together to work on important issues, but also to expand our invitation list to include organizations and individuals who want to work with us on shared projects that advance the cause of the Commons, free culture and open knowledge. I’m confident that a “bigger tent” strategy will help strengthen CC and grow our community globally.

I'm really excited for this year's event, and hope that many, if not all, of you will be able to attend.

Best,
Ryan

PS - The conference is funded in large part by sponsorships from organizations, and I'll be working closely with the CC Korea team to raise those funds. If you have ideas or connections, please reach out to me directly. Thanks!
