Hi all

Just a reminder that we will be making decisions about sponsorship for travel and accommodation for the Summit next week, so anyone wishing to apply should register this weekend, and no later than 3 August.

Even if you are not planning on applying for sponsorship, you should take some time now to look into Polish visa requirements for your country. Poland requires the nationals of some countries to provide a letter of invitation from a Polish organisation. We have a system in place for ccPoland to provide such a letter, but it may take a few weeks from application.

You can request a letter of invitation as part of your registration, but again, best to start this process sooner rather than later.

Dear all

Registration
I am very pleased to announce that registration for the CC Global Summit 2011 in Warsaw is now open - and the time to register is now!

You can find the registration page here: https://creativecommons.net/civicrm/event/info?id=7&reset=1

In order to ensure affiliates receive registration priority, we have decided to start with a 'soft launch' through the affiliate mailing list only. This reflects the fact that this year's Summit is intended to be primarily a chance for the CC affiliate community to connect, communicate and showcase.

Registration for the Global Summit is open to anyone, and we expect members of the broader community and key stakeholders who have an interest in CC and CC issues to attend. However, this year's meeting is not the grand showcase of all things open that the previous iSummits have been. The focus will instead be on CC and its community - their needs, wants and successes.

We therefore ask that for the time being you only forward this registration announcement to your immediate communities, to give our affiliate communities a 'head start' in the registration process.

The Summit will be publicised more widely, but for the time being please don't post this announcement broadly online through open mailing lists or blogs until we launch the formal publicity in early August.

Sponsorship
Applications for travel and accommodation funding can be made through the registration form.

Sponsorship is only available to affiliates and their associated communities, and is limited. We strongly encourage you to seek external funding wherever possible.

Initial sponsorship decisions will be made over the next few weeks - we therefore strongly encourage anyone who is applying for sponsorship to do so by August 3rd.

Those who do apply for funding will be notified if their application as been successful in early August.

Program
Finally, I'm please to announce that a preliminary program is now available here: http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Summit_2011_overview

It is only a skeleton program at the moment, to give people an idea of the basic 'flow' of the event, based on feedback in the affiliate survey.

A more detailed program will be made available in a few weeks, when all feedback and sessions suggestions from our subject matter specialists and general community have been received. Some of you will have noticed call-outs on the mailing list for session suggestions on particular topics, such as research and culture, which are part of this program.

If you have a session suggestion now is the time to submit it. This includes sessions that you are interested in attending or running. Suggestions can be forwarded in response to one of the call outs mentioned above, or may be submitted at the bottom of the registration form. Finally, you can also send program suggestions directly through to me.

Let me know if anyone has any feedback or comments. We look forward to seeing you all in Warsaw!

Jessica
