Community Designs: A Registered Community Design will grant a monopoly right to prevent unauthorised persons from dealing in products, which incorporate the design.

DId anybody notice this new monopoly right going through?

COMMUNITY DESIGN CONSULATION RESULTS

The UK Patent Office has just publicised the results of its consultation on UK Legislation relating to Community Designs.

http://www.patent.gov.uk/about/consultations/communitydesigns/responses.htm

The consulation sought views on a number of proposals put forward to ensure that the Community design system will work correctly in the UK Apparently only two public response to the consulation were received, from CIPA and ITMA.

Who are these mystery organisations that are so concerned about the public good?

1. CIPA = The Chartered Institute of Patent Agents. http://www.cipa.org.uk/pages/home

2. ITMA = The Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys. http://www.itma.org.uk/intro/index.htm

The Patent Office is taking this to mean that there is broad public satisfaction with its proposals and so the Patent Office intends to proceed with its proposals.

BROAD PUBLIC SUPPORT?!? When two organisations which have an economic *interest* in getting this legislation on the books drops in a few positive reports the patent office thinks that it has achieved some form of legitimacy?

Shocking.
