I would definitely agree with Jessica that people should read and perhaps contribute to this.
I was IN Sydney last week at the ALIA Online conference [ libraries in Aus]
It was opened by Senator Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy
He referred to this document and encouraged people to contribute.
As to why would you?
Well, what was really interesting about his presentation was his apparent ability to speak so genuinely about the potential of digital frameworks as economic and cultural engine rooms, including a plug for open data - and then go on to strongly endorse the Rudd governments plan to put up an Australian firewall would will monitor the Internet activity of all Australians.
In his defense he did repeat on a number of occasions that the decision to go ahead would all be decided on "purely technical " arguments " .
He didn't enlarge on what a successful technical solution might be - which would have been interesting - [and potentially a world beating contribution to both cyber safety and pure commuting!] - however, once again he repeated his invitation to say something on this issue by contributing to the paper.
