I have no affiliation with CC.

I started a multimedia game project in 2000 [1], and although the GPL
(or LGPL) was a no-brainer for the software "game engine", I found the
licensing options as well as precedents for how to apply free licensing
concepts to game contents as artistic/aesthetic works to be poor.

So when CC formed in 2002, I followed developments with some interest,
largely based on that project, even though the project itself has
languished in obscurity for fairly unrelated reasons (primarily to do
with the software side). Every so often I get an impulse to go work on
it some more, so it may eventually happen.

I also find the CC licenses useful for online writing and graphics.

I'm also interested in licensing for other types of utilitarian works,
such as hardware, and although the CC licenses are not appropriate for
this, I consider them to be useful prior art in considering problems
associated with hardware licensing. I *am* affiliated with the Open
Hardware Foundation[2], as one of eight founding board members. We are
currently formulating a licensing policy, so this is also a motivator
for my interest on this list.

I also have an "advocacy" motivation for being here, in that I would
like to see free-licensing models succeed as far as they are able. To
some degree I consider aesthetic works to be an edge case, but I am very
interested in how far that case can be pursued.

Cheers,
Terry
