If you created the work, you can license it anyway you want.
As to "how common" it is to mix and match licenses,
someone else might be able to point you to some numbers.

Wikipedia.org is entirely licensed under the GNU-FDL,
including the entire text and any images that may be included.
Some WP contributers also make their individual contributions
available under a CC-ShareAlike license.
