Abstract: The Creative Commons licenses seek to facilitate the distribution
and sharing of copyrighted works. The licenses are characterized by various
optional conditions and may therefore be customized according to the
individual wishes of the author. In many countries across the world, the
original US licenses are currently being converted into national licenses.
The Dutch licenses were launched on 18 June 2004. This article is based on
the experience of porting the Creative Commons licenses into Dutch law
carried out by the Prof. P. Bernt Hugenholtz and the author, both from IViR.
