I've just landed some major updates to the message catalogs, along
with some cleanup.  This message details the changes and what's
available for translation.

1) Message duplication bug

We've had a semi-intermittent problem with some language (uh,
specifically "no", sorry Gisle) where a few strings that were
translated didn't show up properly on staging.  We tracked down part
of this yesterday to an error in the message catalogs -- a bit of
information was "leaking" from Pootle and confusing the license
engine.  Turns out that leak also was masking another problem.  The
text we use when we show people the attribution HTML on the deeds was
duplicated.  Most languages hadn't translated it, but those that had,
well, in 90% of the cases the two translations were different.  Oops.

So a few languages have a fuzzy string with both values in it,
separated by "#-#-#-#".  I'm sorry to say that this primarily impacts
some of our most conscientious translators, but I'm a little bit happy
that we've tracked down the problem and I have more confidence in our
translation code now.  At least, I think I'll be happy after I've
slept.  You can find the string in your language by going to Pootle
(http://translate.creativecommons.org), logging in and searching for
"The page you came from contained embedded licensing metadata"

2) CC0 Deed + Chooser

These strings are in Pootle now and are ready to go.  These are all
new strings for CC0.  You can use the "commit" function to preview
your changes on staging.  Translated URLs included:

http://staging.creativecommons.org/publicdomain/
http://staging.creativecommons.org/license/zero/
http://staging.creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

You'll note the last URL looks a little different; based on early
adopter feedback this is where the CC0 deed will live.

3) Deed Cleanup, Help Text

Some of you may have seen the mockup for adding a statement about
publicity rights to the deed
(http://a5.creativecommons.org/~alex/by-nc/by-nc.html).  We're taking
this opportunity to also clean up that bottom section of the deed and
add some more links between the deed and the FAQ.  We get lots of
questions about those statements at the bottom so we're trying to
explain them better.  Note that we have a little bit of cleanup to do
in the CSS so the staging version doesn't look exactly right yet, but
the strings are in Pootle, marked as fuzzy.

4) Public Domain Certification -- in progress

As part of the CC0 launch we'll be retooling the existing public
domain chooser to emphasize its role in certifying that works are in
the public domain, as well as pointing out it's US focus.  We've
started to update the public domain chooser and some of those strings
are in Pootle.  Unfortunately I haven't quite had time to get them all
fixed up so it's about half way there.  I wanted to get the CC0 stuff
out to you, so you get it all :).  I should have these strings
finished up by the end of the day tomorrow.  If you want to go ahead
and translate, please do; you may just wind up with a few "fuzzy"
strings to double check after I finish flagging things.

5) License locale display on the license chooser

I haven't forgotten the brief discussion of how we can improve the
license chooser (and hopefully deed) language selection.  If you have
ideas or suggestions, please send them my way.  We'll try to mock up a
couple and get feedback.

----

Again, my apologies for the duplication issue (#1).  Thanks again to
everyone who puts in lots of volunteer time keeping the license engine
and deeds translated.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to
ask.

Nathan
