FYI

To most people it's commonsense that it should be ok to take (and share) photos of objects like buildings and art that are out in public. But the rules in some of Europe say otherwise.

On 15 July Belgium adopted a full freedom of panorama law, meaning this practice is now deemed legal, even for commercial purposes. The scope of the law is meaningful because the photos in question would not have been able to be included in Wikimedia Commons. The Belgian chapter of Wikipedia notes that it was able to "undelete" 1500 images on Commons after the law was signed by the king.

The issue of freedom of panorama was also considered during the consultation around the potential changes to EU copyright rules. Communia submitted comments in support of full, harmonized freedom of panorama. We'll see if any changes are made when the Commission releases its legislative proposal in September/October.
