http://puppylinux.ca/vintage/puppy-1.07-mozilla.iso (and many other versions) - install to live CD. Bootable from a wakepup 1.1.C floppy if you copy vmlinuz image.gz and usr_cram.fs to the main directory c:\ (Fat32). In theory also boots with lilo and root=/dev/ram0 read-only. The live CD booted from a 133MHz but not a 233MHz laptop. It makes a 256MB pup001 in C:\ during the first boot, which can be moved along with usr_cram.fs to an ext2 partition (NOT a subdirectory of it).

http://dotpups.de/dotpups - packages for puppy 1 and 2. Choose 1.

A 2005 linux with kernel 2.4.29 and glibc 2.3.4 (which worked with mplayer that I compiled for glibc 2.3.6)

The kernel and modules support cardbus, and the /wifi directory of dotpups provides additional drivers for ipw2200 hostap adm madwifi adm8211 acx100 ralink rtl8180. There are year 2005 packages for alsa, irfanview, qcad, gimp, imagemagick, xmms, xine, ffmpeg, mplayer 1.0.8 and 1.0rc1 and much more that would probably work with BL2 with updated glibc (use package from Slackware 11, use my much smaller SWlibs.tgz, or copy over the 2.3.4 from puppy itself and ldconfig after booting from BL3 floppy disks).

Puppy 1 uses the 2.4 kernel, and 1.07 is the last with OSS support (which works on two of my computers where ALSA would not.)

I think you can use 2.4.29 kernel modules with 2.4.31 kernel (I compiled and posted a bunch of them at http://keesan.freeshell.org/bl/) with insmod -f (force). The packages can be unpacked with tar. cp -a lib* to preserve symlinks if they are there, or make them with ldconfig.

The 2.4.29 kernel still uses the same pcmcia as BL3 so the wifi modules should work for the newer cardbus cards. I have not tried this yet.

Opera 12 needs glibc 2.8, which needs a 2.6 kernel. A puppy 2.6 kernel might work in BL2. Kernel 2.6.21.7 (puppy 4.1.2) is the last to show ata as hd not sd.

There is a movgrab (included in a you2pup package) written in C. Download youtube videos as 3gp (144p) flv (240p) or (360p) mp4 and play with mplayer.

ldd reveals no problems.

mplayer -t flv http://(youtube URL) downloaded a 3gp for me which David Moberg's uclibc mplayer said was encrypted VOB and would not play. I was unable to compile it for BL2.
