I know I read in the message base there is a way to run Links2 without X. Just can't find that message. I think it was from Sindi K. Please explain again. Thank you and may god bless.
Two ways. First is non-graphical. From a console type 'links'.
You can set it up to use external image viewers such as zgv (which needs
svgalib - get the Slackware 4 version for BL3 without updated glibc).
Steven has it set to use xli, I think.
Second is to use a version compiled with svgalib support. I posted
several for glibc 2.2.5 (Slackware 8.1 glibc - you can install my operalib.tgz package and add a few other libraries for BL3, that BL2
does not need, listed in the section about look for operalib.tgz at
http://keesan.freeshell.org/bl/blfiles.htm
You will also need the svgalib package (for glibc 2.2.5). You need to
insmod svgalib_helper.o (in rc) for kernel 2.4.31. Read instructions at my site and/or in the package.
Not all video cards work with svgalib. i810 is hopeless.
LCD monitors also don't seem to work with it - out of range.
Links version 2.1 pre28 is the last with any javascript support but it is really minimal. 2.2 is the latest version that I posted.
I appreciate your sentiments, but please don't bring religion into this linux email group. Pass along any help instead of bestowing blessings.
Feel free to ask for more help with svgalib and links2.
Sindi
