- Subject: [BL] Opera 9.63 font problem
- Date: Mon, 22 Dec 2008 17:50:11 +0000 (UTC)
I downloaded Opera 9.63. I could not find a way to run it from a wrapper script in the unpacked directory so I ran install.sh. It kept settings from 9.50beta (which crashes a lot). It comes with 8MB of locale files, and to start it I had to type
opera -language english
Otherwise it told me I had to specify language.
Even like this, it said my language file was too old or doesn't exist.
After I started it with language specified, I could then type just opera.
It is now not 5MB but 10MB download.
It still does not work at AT&T phone company site with some javascript that checks availability of DSL service (my test page).
They have done something to make it render web pages faste.
When I select web pages in LUCIDA font, it appears to use the XVESA default font. Scraggly looking, serif, possibly monospaced. Lucida Bright is the same, Lucida Typewriter looks like Fixed Misc or Clean or Terminal (the l is a vertical line with a small line to the left at the top). Helvetica looks like Lucida (serif, scraggly). I think it uses only TWO fonts.
The dialog box for choosing fonts displays them properly but the web pages are not as expected.
9.50b displays fonts as expected. I have not tried 9.60-62.
I have the full set of 75 dpi X fonts for Slackware 7.1, including lu - is this lucida? Testing at 1024 resolution.
In Preferences, Advanced, enable single key shortcuts for keyboard navigation between links (with a and q). They turned this off in Version 9.5. Selected links are now not just underlined but also boxed in blue.
I may check this out in Windows.
