- Subject: [BL] shrinking BL2 for laptop
- Date: Fri, 1 Aug 2008 16:27:18 +0000 (UTC)
I am paring down BL2 for a small hard drive in a 100MHz laptop with 16MB RAM. 340MB should be enough for both BL2 and BL3, with small 2.4.31 kernel (for USB storage support). Or I may just put BL3 on this laptop but both on other laptops with 1-2GB drives (but it is faster to copy smaller installations).
I deleted kernel source code, dosemu, cd burning and scanning software.... I am down to about 270MB including gcc and g++ and glibc (not just solibs) and man files but not info or most doc files. (I left mplayer and other sound files so this setup will also work in newer laptops circa 1998).
I won't compile on laptops so will uninstall gcc and g++.
Do I need ANY files ending in .h (in include directories) or are they used only for dynamic compiling? They have accumulated as parts of various packages which I do want to keep so I cannot just removepkg.
