The links2 at that site was compiled to require X, not SVGA.
startx starts X. To use links2 in graphical mode, from an rxvt (xterm) type links2 -g .
You can also use links123 or links-0.9X with xli as a viewer to view individual images by clicking on them.
SVGA is unrelated and you do not need it for BL3 unless you don't want to use X. I provided a recently compiled package of it for BL2 (glibc 2.2.5). It uses less memory than X. The SVGA-based links2 that I compiled (also for BL2) has additional library dependencies besides glibc.
sure if I have SVGA installed or what. I can run "startx" and it loads up a
window manager, so would that indicate that I do? I tried looking at the
Slackware mirrors, in the /slackware directory for Slack 4, but I couldn't
find my way to anything that looked like "SVGA". I'm just trying to get
images in my text browser :)
(PS- it was a broken dongle on my PC Card- I wired the ethernet cable right
onto the circuit board and solved that problem)
Can you repair the dongle, which may have a broken wire?
