I was just able to convert a doc file to a pdf file online using lynx. I uploaded the file to them from my sdf shell account, they emailed it to my same account in less than a minute, and I could then download the pdf file to my own computer and print it with Steven's ps-print script and xpdf, filling in ps-print as the 'print with command', which it retained.
Links probably works too.
The other sites I tried required Opera (javascript).
Even pdfonline flunked a complicated WORD format that WORD could convert to pdf. I have not tried Adobe's online conversion.
They also convert from many other formats to pdf.
Antiword can convert doc to ps or text (with columns) but the ps looks a lot like the text (dashed instead of solid lines, one size font).
I will look for a linux doc to pdf or ps convertor.
