and I think there is a netpbm program that will convert text to graphics.
Really? Which one? That would be very useful for printing.
Check out asciitopgm. (And also pbmtoascii or the like). I think this converts text to greyscale image. But you would still need a graphics printer driver for the non-text printer. Does ghostscript support USB Lexmarks? Do they emulate anything, if not Epson or Deskjet?
