I did myself create a start incident by loading my debian 3.1 (no LAN
connection) so that debian did necessite a very long time for that and I can
easy read the screen informations.

I did see that debian did recognise that it has to load the module for VIA
VT6102 Rhine II in the Version from
http://www.scyld.com/network/via-rhine.html

This site has the source code for modules - via-rhine.c. Did you compile your own module from this source code?

BL2 and BL3 can use modules from Slackware 7.1:
Look for /modules/2.2.16/net/via-rhine.o
at one of the Slackware mirrors listed at a BL site.

Or try the kernel in net.i with this card. It should work with a lot of different ethernet cards. You can look at the configuration for the kernel to check if it supports via-rhine.

Are you saying that the card worked in Debian?

I didn't allready look if I can find a better module on this site.

Truly yours

Are you sure the via-rhine module is the correct one
for your hardware?

and the system answer "Device or ressource busy"

That message occurs when you use the wrong module.

I have had that message with the right module when the card was not
working, with a 3com c3905B card, which did not work until after I did a
thorough test of it in DOS.

Steven used to suggest that people use the SW7.1 kernel in net.i, which
attempts to use many different modules. (It also did not work with my
3com at first).

Other than looking inside the computer or using the net.i kernel, how can
we identify the ethernet chip?

and no internet after that of course

I assume your target network has a gateway to the internet.

Cheers,
Steven
