Hi

I have a colleg living with an African. The man belongs to a parish family
of Ghana so they collect in Europe old good things and send all to Ghana
(bicycles, clothes, etc and old computers).

We set up 11 computers once to be sent to Africa (Eritrea) to be used with linux and a wordprocessor. They had to have at least 250MB because the person setting them up only knew how to use a standard linux distribution, but 486s with 16MB RAM were accepted. What are your hardware requirements for cpu speed, hard drive size, and amount of memory?

For the old computers would Basic Linux perfect if it would be possible to
setup it on the computer before sending with a lot of selected software for

- educative purpose
- students
- home and small business office

so that we can know in Europe when difficulties happen exactly which kind of
programms we did give and how the computer is prepared for his new life.

You will see that I did prepare on the forum a lot of systematic divisions
giving more transparence to the information in such categories (educative
purpose, students and home office).

I have not looked at your link yet. Do people really use Interlingua?

A French speaking former list member had a site for Drinou Linux, based on Slackware 7.1, for which he compiled many programs, with everything in French. Have you found that site?

I would be happy for each help to give a information content to the forum. I
suppose it will be important in a second time if the response is good to
prepare the same forum on French because the half of Afrika speeks this
language (and perhaps on Spanish to help the poor countries of South
Amerika, or to adopt an international language like interlingue (ex
occidental, the name of this email address) that all the occidental language
speaker can understand without major difficulties without to need to learn
it), but it is the next step. At this time we can begin with English, the
prefered language in Ghana.

You will find the completely new forum at http://LINUXsimple.forum.eu.tt
and a just beginned home page at http://LINUXsimple.eu.tt

(Concerning the home page, you will see that I did beginn with Puppy Linux.
The reason is that I didn't know Basic Linux before only a few days... And I
have a reason more: the author of Puppy Linux did allow me to use his text
and to translate them into Interlingue, ex Occidental, and he did write an
among of really highly educative text on Linux. Puppy Linux also is a really
good choice for above purpose but it needs really more ressources as the old
PCs and old processors can support. So I think that Basic Linux would be the
best choice in the first time)

I use an eMail-box at www.gmx.net because gmx gives
- real pop3 email-address
- 1 Gbyte volume
- email add's to 10 Mbyte
- gmx works with easy browser like "links"

I often use the easy and light free browser "OffByOne" or OB1 from
http://www.offbyone.com because
- it works very good under all ms-windows (windows 3.1, 95, 98, me and I
suppose XP)
(with an usual external scroll mouse driver)
- it works in Wine!
- it find enough place on a floppy and can start from floppy
- after erasing the used directory on the hard disk there is no trace of it
on the hard disk if you did work on a computer that not belong to you! So
you are certain of full discretion!
- you are certain that all unpleasant effects of Java (advertising etc.)
will not be encountred because it is not able to handle with java!

I like the rapidforum's: they are really full professional solutions with a
lot possibilities.
- depending of the choiced "skin" they use or don't use Java
- I did take a skin completely without Java.
- this skin work really good with the OB1 brower and with the Links browser

I recommand you to download and start OB1 before you use the new forum.

Please

Kind regards

François
