Is it possible to compile the newer programs using the older libraries?
For example, could I download the latest version of say lynx, and compile
it using the standard glibc libraries that are in Slakware 7.1 or would I
need to go out and download the most reason versions of the libraries and
compiler before doing so? Would the software download site mention if it
required the latest libraries/compilerfor building the program?
