I assume that means you have a single expansion port which
can only take one thing at a time.

Not even temporarily? The DOS partition can subsequently
be reformatted as swap (or something else). It doesn't even
need to be a DOS partition -- any spare partition will do
(as long as Linux can read it) to hold the Slackware 7.1
installation packages temporarily.

Possible, yes. Easy, no. The installation routine is designed
to check for the presence of all the packages before beginning.
It would need to be edited to enable one-by-one installation.

Instead of using the floppy disk, it might be easier to boot
BasicLinux from a CDrom (and then the CDrom drive will be
available to install the packages). If you have a CDrom burner,
you could create a bootable DOS CDrom with the BL2 (ramdisk)
files: boot.bat, zimage, loadlin.exe and baslinux.gz. Then
attach the laptop CDrom drive, boot the DOS CDrom and execute
boot.bat.

Cheers,
Steven
