I think Steven recommends just using ctrl-alt-del keys, which causes the
computer to close everything down and reboot. When it's near the point of
restarting, you can just hit the power switch if you want the machine to
power off rather than restart. That said, on my BL2 machine I use

shutdown -h now
----------------
This shuts everything down and finally displays the message "Power down"
on the screen, at which point I hit the power button. I'm not sure if I
got this functionality by adding some additional packages (I've added
quite a few), or if Steven added this command to BL2. You can give it a
try, if you're like me and don't like using ctrl-alt-del (to me it's sort
of kludgy).
