I know that in Christian circles some scribes would copy each word
as it was read out loud to them. Looking at how the Isaiah scroll
handles the Tetragrammaton I was curious if some of the differences
in reading between it and the Massoretic text could be the
result of a similar practice. I mean if the one reading said
"adonai" for both adonai and YHWH we would expect some copy
error. Do we have any clear evidence to determine if this was a
method used in copying Hebrew Scriptures? Sincerely, Michael Abernathy |
